Guest guest
I have had the opportunity to briefly see a manuscript which was a commentary by a certain vidyAraNya on the shrIvidyAratna sUtras of Acharya gauDapAda who is considered the same as the predecessor of AdishaMkarAcharya. Was this commentary ever published ? I do not know if this vidyAraNya is the same as the author of the famous shrIvidyArNava. My knowledgeable sources tell me that the author of the commentary of the sUtras was probably same as an Acharya of the Shrigeri Math who was active during the Vijayanagar empire. Would any further details be available? Rajita
Guest guest
Respected rajitha, Your findings are true and the authorship is ascribed to vidyaranya of sringeri. He was also the author of vidyarnava. However, there is one more tantra grantha by name " Vidyaranya Tantra " which also ascribed to sri vidyaranya. The origin of this 2nd vidyaranya and his whereabouts are not known. However, some of the scholars are of the opinion that he might from the lineage of amnaaya of Dwaraka Pitha. Because this 2nd vidyaranya is in the guru lineage of sri Nrisimha Saraswathi of Ganagapura (2nd incarnation of Guru Dattatreya as per Guru Charitra; the 1st being Sripada Srivallabha of Pitapuram). This 2nd vidyaranya was also the author of the famous stotra related to Kali ie., " Karpuraadi Stotra " . The 1st vidyaranya of sringeri belongs to 11th century whereas the 2nd vidyaranya of dwaraka belongs to 14-15th century. with regards, sriram rajita_rajvasishth <rajita_rajvasishth wrote: I have had the opportunity to briefly see a manuscript which was a commentary by a certain vidyAraNya on the shrIvidyAratna sUtras of Acharya gauDapAda who is considered the same as the predecessor of AdishaMkarAcharya. Was this commentary ever published ?
