praNAms to all. I request the learned members to help me with this doubt.

This doubt came to the fore when i recently saw a photo of bAlA ammavaru from a

particular temple in andhra. The deity was decorated with a mangalya soothra. My

understanding is that bAlA ammavaru is a kumari. Then is it proper (

appropriate) to adorn her this way? what is the correct way of understanding

this?

This photo - and hence the opportunity to ask this question- seems to have come

in at the correct time. I have been feeling little odd about the the phrase i

say during the sankalapam in nityapooja. I say " balatripurasundari sametha

sambasadaashiva murthy preethyartham....... " . Looking at the beautiful bala

photo that we have in our pooja ( a copy of the big one right at the entrace of

kAmAkthi temple) and seeing her as such a adorable heavenly kanya girl... . so

how can I say " sambhashiva sametha " ..? I was thinking may be i should simply

leave it as " sa ambasadashiva preethyartham " . but then i am used to doing

avaahanam of balaa ammavaru in the meru I have. so how do i understand this and

what should i say? (well " ultimately " it is all Her.. but how do i remove this

doubt from my mind and feel comfortable with the bhavam and these words used

during the avaahanam. )

aparAdha kshamaarpaNam.

praNAms to Her.

Gopi

Dear Divine Brother,

Bala is the anga of Maha Tripurasundari (Panchadasakshari) and i therefore feel

that there is nothing wrong in the diety adorning a mangalya sutra.

Sambasadasiva is latent energy and any diety for that purpose possesses the

latent energy and there is nothing wrong in your doing the sankalpa as such.

After all in nirguna upasana sankalpa becomes redundant.

Blessings,

S.SHANGARANARAYANAN

Respected Gopi,

There is absolutely no problem in doing the sankalpam as you mentioned.

Please continue with that. After all, Bala is considered as laghu srividya.

Though it is an anga vidya of srividya, bala is considered non-different from

lalitha. And as regards the abharana, it is the 'bhavana' of the upasaka that

he is offering the ornament as an offering to the mother divine. She is one

with siva and siva kutumbini. Mangala Sutra is an aspect denoting Saumangalya

(Auspiciousness) which has nothing to do with marriage. Even if you think that

bala who is non-different with lalitha as the better half of siva, there is

nothing wrong in it. You can also do the sankalpa " Sripaadukanushtanam

Karishye " which encompasses guru mandala, Kameshwara-Kameshwari, Bala, Anga

Devatas.

With regards,

sriram
