Guest guest
Pranam Members, Could someone please throw some light on the Gayatri Mantra for other Deities and the significance of them? Does a person recieving Gayatri Mantra (either through Upanayana or through Gayatri Mantra Siddha) is eligible to do Gayatri Mantra for other Deities as well. For example, Ganesha Gayatri goes as " Ekadantaya Vidmahe Vakratundaya Dheemahi Tanno Danti Prachodayat " . The regular Gayatri Mantra has 24 beejaksharas. What about these other Gayatri Mantras. I have seen priests saying these Gayatri mantras during puja/homa/archana time. Lastly can the Deity be known through His/Her specific Gayatri Mantra Japa? Knowing the Deity means the end of spiritual pursuit as such. Thanks a lot, Sai
Guest guest
I was adviced to chant the gayatri of deities in temple premises and also during mantra-pushpa as pointed out by another member. But this seems to go against chanting mantras without proper " initialization " . During Sandhya, many do not instantiate the pancha-pooja before gayatri japa. Havent found a consensus on this. Adds to the dilemma .. at her lotus feet /kamesh p.s: Apologies for for any wrong choice of words. saikumar_durga <saikumar_durga wrote: Pranam Members, Could someone please throw some light on the Gayatri Mantra for other Deities and the significance of them? The Ganapati Atharvashiras which give the Ganapati Gayatri says: " AshishyA na deyam " . So this appears to be the injunction with regards to this mantra. > The regular Gayatri Mantra has 24 beejaksharas. What about these other > Gayatri Mantras. By definition a Gayatri has around 24 akSharas NOT bIjAkSharas. The Gayatri used by a Brahman male has 23 akShara-s and is called nichR^id. It is because of an internal sandhi eating one akShara. Most Gayatris for devatAs have 24 syllables. There are exceptions to this but there are reasons related to actual employment in mantrashAstra for for this difference. > Lastly can the Deity be known through His/Her specific Gayatri Mantra > Japa? Knowing the Deity means the end of spiritual pursuit as such. In many Agama traditions the person doing Sadhana is initiated into Gayatri that takes the place of the Savitri of the Smarta Brahmin male in sandhyopAsana. So Shaiva may have Rudra Gayatri or Vamadeva Gayatri , Pancharatra may have Narayana Gayatri. For other people a Devata Gayatri is for purpose of Dharani.
