Guest guest
Dear Balaji / Devotees, There is a fixed count for the Japa of Mantra. And that minimum number is “108”. When you are doing the purascharana for a prescribed period, then this number is going to increase depending upon the Mantra and the Bijas. One’s guru who initiates the mantra should be approached. But as regards the minimum number “108”, I would like to share my information with you. The height of every human being (male and female) is equivalent to 96 angushta pramanas of his own thumb (ie., the black line which is across our thumb which is roughly less than an inch). And this height varies from person to person. Suppose, my height is 96 times the black line of my own thumb (not somebody’s). Similarly, your height is equivalent to 96 times the black line of your own thumb. This follows for rest of the persons. Now, the Praana Shakti (Vital Energy) of an individual which is spread across one’s body, also permeates 96 Angushta Pramanas in the body and 12 angushta pramanas above the brahmarandra (the very subtle spot on our head). So, this 96+12 = 108 is the spread of Prana Tattva across our body which is also called " Aura " . So, when a Mantra is chanted, the Mantra Chaitanya spreads itself across our body which becomes the Aura of that particular individual. And hence, 108 Japa Count is prescribed so as to get the maximum benefit of mantra as it permeates our whole body till the 12 inches above Brahmarandra. As a result, this Gross Body which is “Maamsa (flesh) Pinda” becomes the “Mantra Pinda”. Through this one-ness with the Mantra Devata is achieved. With regards, Sriram. Chat on a cool, new interface.
