Guest guest
Please go to the files section in this page One will find a 3.5 MB file titled Dalai Lama Tara.wma It is a commercial audio with the revered Dalai Lama performing the japa of a popular Tara mantra. If one ignores the background music(not to say it is not enjoyable) one gets some idea of vAchika japa. Ofcourse such vAchika japa cannot be done when there are people around who could hear it. It may seem to us that it is being rushed. But in all probability the words as well as the meaning are articulate for the performer. This is what japa is. Contemplating slowly on each and every syllable of the mantra thinking about its meaning is not japa(Again this is not to say thinking about the meaning in the background is not important). It can be called as mantra dhyAna. Mantra japa is what is we hear in this file. There seems to be some confusion between this mantra dhyAna and mantra japa in some circles. Note: Further technical discussions on the same are welcome and may not be out of the list scope. But kindly do refrain from topics like " Is it right for him to perform like this publicly? " etc. They are un-productive and clearly out of context for us. Regards sa.
