Dear Sriram,

Was the Upasana done with Vedic Devi Sukatham or TANTRIC Devi Suktham as both

were not Brahmins entitled to chant vedas.

Dear Saktha Bandhus,

In the 13th Chapter of Devi Sapthasathi, after hearing the divine sports of

Chandi, the king Suratha and merchant Samadhi chant the famous Rik of Devi

Suktam from Rig Veda and reflect on its purport. They did the upasana of Devi in

the form of ‘Vak’.

Shri Gurubhyo Namah.

I have some questions.

When did the four castes become known to man ?

What is meant by Brahmin ?

Can some one kindly guide me as to where it is dictated that only Brahmins are

qualified to chant the Vedas ?

Thanks,.

both the varnas in question have the adhikAra for studying the Vedas provided

upanayanam (and hence gAyatri upadesham) is done,

http://kamakoti.org/hindudharma/part16/chap10.htm

one example of this is in the Drona Parva both nara and nArAyana invoke the

shatarudrIya to harness the pAsupatam

in all probability suratha and samAdi were dwijAs and must have had the

adhikAratvam as gurukula vAsam would have been the norm in those days.

On reason to believe that it could be the tantrika devi sUktam as against the

one from RV could be the specific mention of it in the vaikriti rahasyam slo

23.. namo devyA iti stotrair..

Shri Gurubhyo Namah:

Friends:

Thanks to Shri Krishnamoorthy for providing the link to the Kamakoti.org's

article on hindu dharma.

Even here, I did not see a dictum or rule that only two varnas can learn and

chant the Vedas.

What is said is that it is not necessary for some varnas to learn / chant

the Vedas, because it would interfere with the nature of their work.

This is true, but, in my opinion, " not necessary " is different from " should

not " or " cannot " , so, it should be allowable, at least under some

circumstances that all other varnas can chant the Vedas.

Thanks and Regards.

Shri Maathre Namah.

Dear shri Kumar,

The intent and purport of my email is restricted only to the scope of the

discussion regarding devi sUktam,

your question is a different topic itself and requires a different subject

heading

Shri Gurubhyo Namah:

I think we all know the answer to this question already, if we truly turn

inwards for our answers.

Therefore, I will stop this thread now.

Thanks and Regards.
