Guest guest
Dear saktha bandhus, Lalita Sahasranama was composed in Kanchipuram at Hayagriva Asrama. This Ashrama is in the near the Upanishad Brahmendra Mutt which can be seen even today. The name Upanishad Brahmendra Mutt is stuck because there lived a great monk by name Sri Upanishad Brahmendra Saraswathi was the diksha guru of Saint Tyagaraja, the great carnatic musician. As per Kamakshi Mahatyam, after the death of Bandhakasura, the devatas buried the body of Bandakasura and installed Jayasthamba or the victory staff and constructed a passage that leads to Bilakasa. They also constructed a Mandapam called “Gayatri Mandapam”. Devatas installed the Devi at the Middle of this Mandapam and spent the whole night in Japa. When the devatas opened the doors the next morning, they found to their surprise, the idol was transformed to Devi Kamakshi. It was Friday, the Krishna Paksha Prathama Tithi and the month was Phalguna. The year was Srimukha. The yuga was Krita Yuga. The sanctum sanctorum of Devi Kamakshi is in the middle of the Gayatri Mandapam which is supported by 24 Pillars. Devi Kamakshi wields Pasa, Ankusa, Bow of Sugarcane and flowers arrows in her four arms, seated in padmasana. These 24 pillars of Mandapa represent the Gayatri Mahamantra. Inside one of the pillars at the north-western side, there is a small hole or bila where kumkuma is put daily. It is this kumkuma which is given as the prasada to the devotees. This randhra / bila is the Nabhi Sthana which represents the central point of Gayatri Mantra or Mantapa. Devi Kamakshi sports at the middle of this Gayatri Mandapa which symbolically represents her CHIT SWARUPA which is the upaasya devata in Gayatri Mantra. Perhaps, due to this reason, the name “CHIDAGNIKUNDA SAMBHUTAA” has evolved that represents this Bila of Gayatri Mandapa With regards, sriram Explore your hobbies and interests. Click here to begin.
