Guest guest
Dear sankaranarayan and kumar, The context in which this zen story was told is entirely different. The meditation or smoking act that has NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY. <<< The first monk asked : o honorable master, can I smoke when I meditate. The master lost it, he was furious and threw him out ... The other monk goes to the master: oh venerable master, can I meditate when I smoke. The master said: " Of course you can meditate while you smoke... " >>>> Meditation is a state of being SELF-AWARE of YOUR SELF. Whatever act you do, if you are AWARE OF YOURSELF, it is MEDITATION. This story is a sort of thought-provoking and really a food for thought. The 1st monk asked whether he can smoke while meditating ie., can a wordly activity be entertained during the process of sadhana and meditation. At this the guru got wild. The 2nd monk asked whether the worldly activity be converted to meditation and the guru approved it. That is, whatever act be it spiritual or material, it should be offered to the SUPREME. In other words, when the ACT OF DOERSHIP or Kartrutva-bhavana is not there, that itself is a MEDITATION. In this state one remains in one's OWN TRUE SELF. When one abides in one's OWN TRUE SELF, even if one smokes, or commits murder this is not a SIN. Because the SENSE OF DOERSHIP or EGO is dissolved. This is MEDITATION. With regards, sriram Bollywood, fun, friendship, sports and more. You name it, we have it.
Guest guest
Shri Gurubhyo Namah I certainly did comprehend the metaphoric nature of the earlier posting. I do not disagree with the import of Shri Ivatovic's posting. I feel that some explanation is warranted here. If you look at similar metaphors given by the great Gurus, they would never include smoking as an act to interpret our texts or guide us. They are extremely careful even in their examples. This is their greatness. Also, I think that this is the kind of thing that could lead us in the wrong direction, albeit by distorting the message, and converting it to suit our purposes. We have many such examples in our history. Some of us may even get the wrong message from this type of posting, through sheer lack of comprehension. This is why I placed my posting. Thanks and Regards. KR.
