Guest guest
Although the following narration in the shankara digvijaya is abour nR^isiMha, I am posting this here as it applies to all devata-s. --- padmapAda was asked how the devata Nrisimha was so gracious to him. padmapAda replies: " In my early days I performed austerities for a very long time in order to propitiate Nrisimha. A hunter who used to pass by asks him " Oh yogin why are you staying alone in this mountain cave. padmapAda says that he is in quest of that wonderful being who has a human body up to the neck and a Lion's face above and that he abides in this forest but I have not been able to meet him. The hunter then went into the forest and not long after he returned with Nrisimha tied with creepers. Padmapada asks teh divine being as to how could this hunter get to him so quickly when it is hard even for the rishis-s. Nrisimha explains that " Even Rishi-s are not able to concentrate so whole-heartedly on me like this hunter " So saying he disappeared blessing Padmapada. ----- From Swami Tapasyananda's translation. It is said that with Nrisimha's grace padmapada saved the Acharya from some dangers. Acharya himself is usually thought of as a great upAsaka of Nrisimha. According to some mantra shastra manual-s -ksh- denotes both Nrisimha and Bhairava/Kshetrapala. So we can count this as one more thing common to Nrisimha and Shiva. The complete Nrisimha bIja when repeated constantly does indeed sound like a Lion's roar. This is just imagination though. Nrisimha is AntramAlI while Bhairava is described as AntrayaGYopavItavAn.h. Also notice that Nrisimha and Shiva both have stories of conferring their grace upon a tribal/hunter. All this is in addition to the already discussed common features of their iconography.
