Guest guest
Dear members, If any of these topics have been covered in the yesteryears, pl point me to the URL. Otherwise, I would like listen to the comments from the saadhaks of this forum: 1) About Lalitha: Her Name, Meaning etc. I understand Lalitha in a unique form of Mother among the sruthis and smrithis. What is the significance? 2 Lalitha and Ananda: Of the seven vyahrithis, Janar lokha is equaled to Ananda. This world and shrushti is said to be her Lila, a play for Her Ananda. What is the innner meaning of these two? 3) Tirumeeyachur Lalithambika temple: A few days back when I was in Chennai, a very old friend of mine gave meentioned about Lalithambika temple at Tirumeeyachur near Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. The sthala seems to have connections with Lalitha Sahasra namam. what are the details of this? Thanks in advance for your time on this. -gopal
Guest guest
Respected devotees, I have a book titled " Shrividhya NityAnhikamu " in telugu authored by Dr. P.V.B.Mahavdev (disciple of Sri C.V.Swamy Sastri garu of Guhananda mandali, Madras). In this it is mentioned that Shri Swmay Sastri garu explains the meaning of " LALITHA " as ---> lakshya tvAt sarvavidyAnAM , liMga hInatayA sthite tAraka tvAt bhavAmbode , laliteti prakIrtyate Meaning (as mentioned in the book) : LA - SHE is the goal / lakshyam of all nigama , Agama vidhyas. LI - 'Being' is a state to which is associated a gender, form etc. But SHE is beyond this and so is linga-heenam (no bhedam as to male/female etc). THA - SHE is the embodiment of Taraka tatvam since it is only SHE who can take us beyond this samsara sagaram Hence LAkshyam, LInga-heenam, TAraka-tatvam, put together and lo! there SHE is " LALITA " devi. Bala Sharanam, Lalitha. Gopal G <gopal_gopinath wrote: Dear members, If any of these topics have been covered in the yesteryears, pl point me to the URL. Guest guest
Dear gopal, Namaste. Hope you have comfortably settled down in US with sweet memories of your trip to India. The word “lalitha†has its origin in Matsya Purana (60th chapter Sloka No. 12). It says: “lokaan atitya lavanya – lalitha tena uchyateâ€. The beauty that has surpassed this entire universe. I could not translate the word “lavanya†in English. Probably I should say in the words of John Keats “a thing of beauty is joy for everâ€. So, it is this beauty which is Lalitha. So, from Lavanya and Loka, L (dirgha L) and l (hrasya L) is picked. It becomes “Lalâ€. From “ateeta†(ati+itha), ‘itha†has been picked. So, Lal+itha becomes Lalitha. As per mantra-sankhya: From Kaadi nava, Taadi nava, Paadi pancha, Yaadi-ashta, in the word “Lalitha†, L denotes 3, a denotes 1. So, 3 x 1 = 3; similarly, in Li, L denotes 3 and i denotes 2 so, 3 x 2 = 6; Similarly, in tha, th denotes 6 and a denotes 1, so, 6 x 1 = 6. So, Lalitha denotes 3 + 6 + 6 = 15. Which is Panchadashakshari Mantra. Svatantra tantra says: Svaatma eva devata proktha – lalitha vishvavigraha Lauhityam tat vimarsah syat – upasthiriti bhavana Kaala bhuta panchakaadi tattva, varna, samadhistha yogi tripthiprada chandrakala rupini iti LALITHA. So, Time, 5 Gross Elements, Matrika and the Chandrakala at Sahasrara Chakra is Lalitha. Lalitha is also called Subhaga or Sundari. Please refer my earlier posts for the name “sundariâ€. This is the “shuddha jnana†in Triputi (Jnatru-Jnana-Jneya). In this Triputi, she is of the form of Shuddha Jnana. And this Jnana is addressed as “Umam Haimavatim Bahushobhamanaam†in Keno Upanishad. This word “shobha maanaa†is taken as Sundari in Triputi. Hence, Lalitha Tripurasundari. This Lalitha is KAADI Vidyaswarupini. Now, if you observe entire Lalitha sahasranama, nowhere the name Lalitha has come except at the end (sivasakthaikya rupini lalithaambika). What I have learnt from my guruparampara is that these entire names ie., from Srimaata, srimaharajni……..to sivasaktaikya rupini are the adjectives to sri lalitha. Hence, while doing the parayana of LS, one should do the bhavana as : Srimaata rupini sri lalitha; Sri maharajni rupini sri lalitha; Srimat simhasaneswari rupini sri lalitha, and so on and so forth. So, every name is the adjective of Lalitha and while doing the parayana, the bhavana should be such that these names should be mentally imagined to be pre-fixed with Lalitha. So, Lalitha is the underlying thread that holds the entire LS which are adjectives. The first three names of Lalitha itself encodes the Mahasodhashi Mantra and the forth mantra “chidagni kunda sambhuta†encodes the source of this Mahashodasi. Now, as regards, your doubts about Janah, in vyahriti, please do not get confused with the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and TV Kapali Sastry. I will give a personal mail to you regarding this since this is not the forum to be discussed about the Aurobindo Yoga. Finally, I conclude with the words of Shri TV Kapali Sastry on Srividya: “Whatever the path the aspirant follows, there are certain basic requisites for the Sadhana to be successful. The Goddess of Srividya is the Mother of Beauty and Bliss, the Mother of Love and Grace. One who follows the path of Srividya should be a worshipper of Beauty and Grace. He should reject ugliness in all its forms. He should not only shun the outer ugliness but also ugliness in thought, word and deed†With regards, Sriram Namami Prachanda chandikaam…….
