Guest guest
Dear members, The magnificent Sun Temple of Konark is probably the architectural expression of Asyavamasya Sukta. Built by King Narasimha Deva I of Ganga Dynasty, the Lord Suryanarayana rests on the temple that was designed in the shape of colossal chariot with 7 horses that are drawn by 24 wheels. There are 3 different figures of Lord Surya. The three different figures represent 3 sandhyas. When Suryanarayana is visualized as Veda Purusha, 7 horses represent the 7 metrical notes of Veda and 24 wheels represent the Gayatri Chandas. When Suryanarayana is visualized as Kalapurusha, 7 horses represent 7 days of week and 24 wheels represent 24 hours of a Day. At the right side of the temple, 9 planets are found. At the South-East Corner of the temple, there is a temple dedicated to Devi Mahagayatri. This Devi is the main Consort of Suryanarayana. Suryanarayana is Veda Purusha and Mahagayatri is Veda Maata. The foundation and base of the Sun Temple rests on three wonderful Yantras of Gayatri, Savitri and Saraswathi. The Garbhagriha of Suryanarayana rests on wonderful Surya Yantra in the shape of Hexagon and 12-petalled Lotus. Dwadasa Adityas were invoked in these 12 petals.
