Dear members,

I mentioned in my earlier about the " secrecy " or " rahasya " has been maintained

in Tantra in 6 different ways. I reiterate that statement. They are:

1) Names of Devata (devata nama) 2) Ayudhas of Devatha (weapons of the deity) 3)

Vehicles (vahana) of Devata 4) Devata murthi (sthula) (forms of devata) 5)

Mantra Uddhara and Varna Sankhya of the Devata (number of letters and syllables

in the mantra of the devata) 6) Twisting and jumbling of Devata Name.

Using these above ways of " secrecy " , the tantrics have used " SANKETHA VIDYA " and

intentionally and purposefully made certain principles a " SECRET " . They have 1)

changed the form of word; twisted and jumbled keeping in view of the original

meaning of the word 2) changed the form of word, twisted and jumbled the word

and purposefully " camouflaging the meaning of the word " .

Some of the names in Tantra are Khadga, Vaarthali, Bhairava, Heramba,

Hayagriya and so on. Let us look at some of these.

KHADGA implies Khandana which is also called Avadaana. Avadaana is derived

from root Avakhandane. Khadga and Avadana are similar.

So, Avadaana > Prashashta > Prashamsha > Stuthi are synonyms.

BHAIRAVA is derived from Dravida Bhasha which implies Mahadeva. Though it is

explained as Bharana, Ramana and Vamana its etymological origin is :

Periyavar > Pairavarar > Bairavar > Bhairava

Shri Gaudapada in his Subhagodaya Stuti hints this name in 44th sloka “nava

vyuham kaula….â€.

HERAMBA (Ganapati) is derived from:

Bhairava + Oba > Hairava + Oba > Heravoba > Heramba

Even the word ‘Gaja-mukha’ is the jumbled form of ‘Jaga-mukha’ ie.,

whose face is of the form of Cosmos or Universe. The Deity whose form is

Universe (Jaga). Since, Jagat is Pranava-swarupa, Gaja-mukha denotes the

Pranava Swarupa with his Eka Danta and Vakra Tunda.

Also, Ga and Ja are interchangeable and hence denote the same principle. So,

Ga and Ja implies that “The Deity whose bija is Gamâ€.

With regards,

Sriram
