Guest guest
Dear Learned members of the Ambaa group, i would like guidance as how to pray and worship Ambaa, Maa,Devi or Shakthi.Because i think all forms are hers. I have been reading interesting discussions in this group about the worship, Guptatava etc etc. I have been doing Lalitha Sahasra Nama Parayana for quiet some time, but not like sadhaka. In Andhra Pardesh now a days many women sit together and do this parayana as a group. As far as i am concerned it would emanate divine or good vibrations. That's what is my actual intention also. Not with any speacific intention or for siddhi's. I would like to know how far is it right and do i need to follow any speacific procedure etc etc.. I started a group with some of my girl friends here in Canberra and we do Lalitha Sahasranama Parayana and Vishnu Sahasranama Parayana on a weekly basis. Again after Lallitha we just chant Lingastakam and before Vishnu we read Devi Ashthottaram. So could the learned members please tell me if this all right and if i need to offer any specific prasadam etc? Thanks and Regards Aruna Gillkum Unlimited freedom, unlimited storage. Guest guest
Respected Aruna, Namaste. These evolutions of ‘lalitha mandalis’ is a recent trend from the past 10 years in Andhra and elsewhere. I donot know how far the devotional temperament is maintained, but most of the mandalis I have visited here in Hyderabad are more or less a lame excuse for frequent ‘get-togethers’ to discuss the recent fashion trends and harassment of their daughter-in-laws. Utmost care should be taken in maintaining the spiritual atmosphere and correct pronunciation and phonetics in mass parayanas. This has been a trend in Sringeri Sankar Mutt at Hyderabad also and we were mute spectators of that. One of elderly women of the Mandali was chanting the Lalitha Sahasranama in the temple and rest of the women were emulating her and repeating the verses in chorus. The LS Name “Duracharashamani†and “Doshavarjitha†were broken in such a manner by the women as follows: “Durachara†“Shamanaiâ€, “Dosha†, “Varjithaâ€. The meaning of entire name is changed and mother is addressed as “Duraacharaâ€. The same was pointed to Shri Bharati Tirtha Swamigal and he said “Mother save such peopleâ€. Even Shri Swamigal had to succumb to certain pressures of these latest trends. During His Chaturmaasya Vrata at Hyderabad in 1991, there was much fuss from these Mandalis. It is a general practice that Gents should remove their shirts and wear uttariyas and Ladies should wear traditional dress of Saris (traditional half-saris in case of unmarried) while taking the tirtha of Chandramouliswara Puja. One lady was wearing the Jeans and when Swamigal objected to this she raised hue and cry over this issue. And finally Swamigal had to give the tirtha to this lady who by the time gathered some of the feminists and politicians for protest. ANY ADVICE GIVEN IS WRONGLY TAKEN AND IS BEING SNUBBED AS “BRAHMIN DOMINATIONâ€. THOUGH PEOPLE SHOULD CHANGE AS PER THE CHANGING TIMES AND TRENDS BUT TRADITION SHOULD BE RESPECTED. Now that you have started the Lalitha Sahasranama Parayana, I would not discourage you neither would I asked you to stop it. But, please ensure the proper pronunciation and phonetics. If possible, chant before an advanced upasaka who is well versed in Sanskrit and get yourself corrected the doshas, if any. SO, PROPER CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN IN THE PHONETICS AND PRONUNCIATION DURING THE MASS PARAYANAS OF LALITHA SAHASRANAMA. I WOULD ADVICE RATHER TO DO THE PARAYANA OF SAUNDARYALAHARI RATHER THAN LS WHICH IS A MANTRA SASTRA. As regards the Naivedya, Pulihora / Dadyojana / Sweet Pongal / Rice Porridge can be offered and the same could be distributed to the Sumangalis as Prasada. After the distribution of Prasada, do offer small sachets of Turmeric and Kumkuma alongwith Plaintains as Tambula to the Sumangalis present. Guest guest
Respected sir, thank you very much for the reply and explaining in detail with example. yes ofcourse i have seen such groups while i was in india and that's why i have discouraged people to have get together kind of thing with prasadams, etc.the only reason i told them we should do parayanam is to create and spread some good vibrations. As you have pointed out that we should chant in front of someone who knows it properly and get corrected? do you know of anyone in india and abroad?and will they let us do without any proper initiation? does Laitha Sahasranama Parayanam need any initiation from guru's? and what about the audio of lalaitha sahasranamam available in markts? are they pronounced correctly? Or may be i can do Soundarya Lahari parayanam instead as you pointed out until i get proper guidance. Thank you very much sir. --- On Mon, 14/7/08, venkata sriram <sriram_sapthasathi wrote: venkata sriram <sriram_sapthasathi Re: help needed Monday, 14 July, 2008, 10:45 AM Respected Aruna,
Guest guest
Seriously, why should one be bent on doing something which is clearly prohibited? Why not say viShNu sahasranAma or other devI sahasranAma-s? See /message/2250 The lakShMI sahasranAma is excellent IMO. As one member commented before, if one is so inclined they may say LS with the attitude that they are reciting a part of brahmANDa purANa and not with the saMkalpa of reciting LS as a mAlA mantra. Feminist scum(those particularly intent of disturbing our traditions) should be dealt with a different strategy. , venkata sriram <sriram_sapthasathi wrote: > > Respected Aruna, > > Namaste. > > These evolutions of ‘lalitha mandalis’ is a recent trend from the past 10 years in Andhra and elsewhere. Guest guest
Dear Divine, I am equally painted to see that it has become a business in Srividhya charging so much for initiation, so much for panchadasi, bala and shadasi etc. Even people who boast and advertise in media, are doing like this. They buy poor people to say that this and that swamigi has so much power and they can do anything to turn your life topsy turvey or total billionaire. None is interested to follow the scriptures. For instant none of the peetadhipathis even read the pha stuthi of Lalitha sahasranama, which clearly prohibits anyone changing the same without panchadasi initiation. Some years back I came across a group which was doing daily Lalitha sahasranam parayana and done about 12 crore avarthis. Alas the devotees were found very poor and had no good saree or even a asana to sit and do the parayana. When i found they are not initiated, I initiated more than 300 people in one go and made them fit for doing the parayana. Thereafter I found many of them had improved both materially and spiritually, because when lalitha can have all the facilities to enjoy, she bestows them on the devotees too, provided tey deserve and quality themselves. Whatever said and done, true upasakas should undertake to initiate those doing lalitha sahasranama and trisathi without panchadasi minimum, so that they are qualified and get benefitted. I have done this to some groups and are ready to do it to any number of groups without any money or even obligation, as according to me, once some one is initiated by the Guru the atma sakthi of the guru and the initiated becomes one. Where then is the question of obligations and limitations. However those who could afford, I request them to contribute to temple renovation, feeding the poor, or distributing vastras and food to the aged and poor children., according to their capacity and I do not fix any quantum. I can be contacted till 20th instant at ++91+44+24421420 and thereafter i will be in USA for about 5-6 months in NJ - ++1+908+903+9222. Even in USA if some one needs my help I am ready to do it. I will be visiting several places to conduct Chandi/Srividhya homams and also meditation classes for all.
