Guest guest
There was a certain verse on Devi Parvati, probably by Bhaskararaya, that I had come across about a year back. I don't remember it now, but the meaning was somewhat as follows - Sarasvati and Lakshmi can be " acquired " (in the sense that wealth or knowledge can be acquired) but none except Shiva himself can acquire Parvati. In this way the pativraatyam of Parvati was praised. I was under the impression that I had seen it on this list but could not find it in the archives. If some list member recalls it, kindly post the same -- santoShaH paramo lAbhaH satsa~NgaH paramA gatiH I vicAraH paramaM j~nAnaM shamo hi paramaM sukham II - yoga vAsiShTha

Guest guest
Dear ramesh, Namaste. Sometime back you asked about the verse that praises the chastity of Devi Parvati. The sloka says that Saraswati and Lakshmi can be attained ie., one can become Vak-pati by becoming great scholar and similar lakshmi-pati by acquiring riches but not parvati- pati. Only Siva can become Parvati-pati and only Siva is worthy of embracing the Parvati thereby the Pativratya of Parvati is extolled. It is the 97th sloka of Saundaryalahari which runs like this: kalatram vaidhAtram kati kati bhajantE na kavayah shriyO dEyAh kO vA na bhavati patih kairapi dhanaih mahAdEvam hitvA tava sati satInAmacharamE kuchAbyAmAsanghah kuravakatarOrapyasulabhah //97 O idea of chastity! how many poets have not courted the wife of Vidhi? Who does not become the lord of Sridevi by commanding whatever little of wealth? O foremost amongst the chaste! saving the Great Lord (Mahadeva), the embrace of thy breast is unattainable even by the Kuravaka tree So, here the chastity of Tripurasundari is highlighted. I hope your doubt is cleared. With regards, sriram , " Ramesh Krishnamurthy " <rkmurthy wrote: > > There was a certain verse on Devi Parvati, probably by Bhaskararaya, > that I had come across about a year back.
