Guest guest
Dear ravi, There are many temples dedicated that Siva, Sakthi, Anjaneya and Narasimha Swamy temples around Hyderabad. There are certain self- evolved idols and are certain idols that were manually installed by great upasakas. Some parts of Andhra was under the influence of Badami Chalukyas, Kalyani Chalukyas, Vengi Chalukyas, Reddy Dynasty, Rashtrakutas, Vishnukundis, Kakatiya Dynasty etc. Especially, the Kakatiya Dynasty is known for the Vira Saiva Movement in Andhra. It was during this period that the Srisailam, Warangal etc. were very popular. There is a typical dance ballet depicting Siva Tandavam called " Perini Siva Tandavam " which was quite exclusive for Kakatiya rulers. This dance of Siva Tandava was performed by the asthana dancers on behalf of kings and warriors of Kakatiyas to get the viratva / to get the warring mood or emotion to fight against the enemies. After the Kakatiya dynasty, Hyderabad, fell into the clutches of mughals, qutub shahi dynasty and later on into the hands of Nizam rule. So, during this mughal and nizam rule, several temples related to Shakthi, Nrisimha and Anjaneya were established to unite the Hindus and get the warring mood to throw these rulers out. I will list out quite a few temples within Hyderabad that are quite famous: Shakti temples in Hyderabad: Peddamma temple (Goddess Durga) at Jubilee Hills, Goddess Yellamma (Renuka) at Balkampet, Goddess Mahakali (similar to Mahakali of Ujjain) at Secunderabad, Goddess Chamundeshwari at Siddhipet near Medak (this deity holds 18 hands and matches the dhyana sloka of Mahalakshmi of Madhyama Charita of Sri Chandi and is similar to the idol of Ashtadasha Bhuja Mahalakshmi of Dharmapuri Adhinam), Goddess Vanadurga at West Marredpally of Secunderabad, Goddess Pratyangira at Dilsukhnagar (this is under Courtallam Pitham) Shakti Temples surrounding Hyderabad but near to the Hyderabad district Srisailam sports with Mallikarjuna and Devi Bhramarambika The 4 gateways of Srisailam are: Eastern Gate: Tripurantaka that sports with Tripuranthakeswara Swamy and Goddess Tripurasundari Southern Gateway: Siddhavatam sporting with Siddhavateswara and Devi Kamakshi Western Gate: Alampur sporting with Bala Brahmeshwara and Devi Jogulamba Northern Gate: Umamaheswaram sporting with Maheswara and Devi Uma There are 4 secondary gateways: North East: Eleswaram sporting with Eleswara swamy and Devi Katyayani South East: Somasila sporting with Someswara South West: Sports with Santha Malleswara North West : Kudala Sangameswara sports with Sangameswara. This temple has been shifted to Alampur because this is getting submerged by back waters of River Krishna during heavy rains. Apart from these, Warangal is also quite near to Hyderabad. There are several temples that were constructed by Kakatiya rulers who were patrons of Vira Saiva Philosophy. The famous 1000-pillared temple and Ramappa temple dedicated to Lord Siva is just marvelous and worth- seeing especially the temple architecture and sculpture. It reminds us of the Brihadiswara Temple of Tanjore. The Devi that is worth seeing in Warangal is Bhadrakali which is the kula devata of Kakatiya rulers. A huge idol with 8 hands. A srichakra is also installed and worshipped as per the dakshinachara rituals. Another place near Hyderabad is worth mentioning which is called Kolanupaka. This place was the capital of Kalyani Chalukyas during 11th century. This place sports with Lord Someswara. It needs a special mention that a great vira saiva saint (one among 5 vira saiva acharyas) Shri Renukacharya (Revana Siddha Yogi) was born here and later on absorbed himself into this linga. This place is 80 km from Hyderabad and falls between the main line of Hyderabad – Warangal. Warangal is also famous for the birth place of the famous sringeri acharya Vidyaranya. These are some of the places that are worth seeing. Now, apart from the temples in these places Siddhavatam, Srisailam, Alampur, Tripurantakam and Umamaheswaram, there are several mind- boggling and surprising places to be seen here and one must take the help of one's gurunatha who is well versed in mantra sastra and also the help of local tribals. As I mentioned previously in my earlier posts that there are carnivorous trees that pick up and smash against its trunk, these are present in Srisailam Nallamalai forest. One must be very careful here. Also, in Srisailam, Siddhavatam, Alampur, there are mercury wells (red mercury) which is used for tantric rites. There is an ancient cave in Srisailam near Kadali Vana. Inside that cave, there is wonderful ayurvedic shrub. There is a special tantric rite to consume that shrub. If consumed, one gets the Khechari Yoga siddhi and one is able to fly in the air. There is a yogi who is still alive whose age is 350 years by name Vishwanatha yogi. He should be approached with humility. If he is pleased, he would show you Mahanirvana Nagara which is gateway to Mahakailasa. However, with great difficulty he gives the darshan. There are special herbs (mulikas) when consumed, would get special tantric powers. Any type of vashikarana and abhicharika prayoga can be performed with these herbs that are guarded by 8 snakes (ashta nagas). Some herbs are guarded by Dattatreya and some by Ashwini Devatas. These can be seen with the help of gurunatha in Srisailam, Alampur and Siddhavatam. There are certain places where mercury can be got (I refrain from mentioning those places). There is a special ritual for getting that mercury and mercury is solidified using the " aghora mantra " and " kali mantra " as per the Rasa Ratnakara. Thus a siddha gutika is formed which is used as rasa linga. Even now there are several tantrics in these places who are adept in this form of yoga. One such person is Shri Himakuntala Atmaramaiah Somayaji (whose grandson is my colleague). A great siddha purusha who is adept in making rasa lingas with tantric dikbandhana using Rasa Ratnakara Samucchaya of Nityanandanatha. He is in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. This great personality has collected many such ayurvedic herbs, and red mercury from Srisailam and Siddhavatam. There is a big banyan tree at Siddhavatam. This tree sports a beautiful Sajeeva Samadhi (living Samadhi like Sri Raghavendra of Mantralayam) of a great Dakshinamurthy Upasaka by name Shri Bhaskara Panthulu. Though he took Samadhi, he still gives the darshan to ardent devotees. There is a kadamba forest in Tripurantakam near the temple of Tripurasundari which is worth seeing. Especially the worship of Sriyantra is worth watching. The nava avarana archana is done as per the dakshinachara mode. It is said the head of Banasura fell here. At Mahaboobnagar which is very near to Hyderabad, there is a place called Narayanpet which is famous for the descendants of Shri Bhaskararaya. There is a mercury sriyantra that was worshipped by Shri Bhushanandanatha. At Adoni, which is in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, there is a wonderful Samadhi of great Yati by name Shri Sacchidanandendra Saraswathi. When meditated here sincerely, any doubt in Vedanta Sutras and Brahma Sutra, is dispelled by the grace of this yati. Fortunately, my gurunatha worked as a school teacher in Adoni and I was able to visit this grand place with my gurunatha. There is much more to write but owing to the shortage of space I am unable to write about the secret places of these. Probably some time later, I would list out some of the secret places, its importance and some of the tantric rites. These tantric rites are of no use to us but are of academic interest only. Some are to get guptha nidhis that were to be found underground. Some are used to cure incurable diseases, some for maha saamraajya prapthi and some are for achicharika prayogas. Some rites are also related to Alchemy ie., converting basemetal into gold. Guest guest
Dear ravi, I forgot to mention a couple of kshetras near Hyderabad that are famous siva kshetras. One is Vemulavada in Karimnagar district which is about 2 hrs journey. This place sports with Lord Rajarajeshwara and Devi Rajarajeshwari. There is a special abhisheka everyday at 11:00 AM in the morning. This abhisheka is done with cooked rice (annabhisheka) by chanting anna sukta and satarudriya. This puja is worth seeing. Special vedic pundits are allowed inside for this puja to chant veda and pancha suktas and mahanyasa. Another famous kshetra is at Kaleshwaram. This is also in Karimnagar district at the banks of River Godavari. It sports with Kaleswara. The speciality of this kshetra is that in a single yoni (base), there are 2 siva lingas. You would not find this sort of idols anywhere. The worship of " sahasra ghatAbhisheka " is just marvellous here! There is also a famous nrisimha kshetra near to this place called Dharmapuri. The lakshminrisimha is worth seeing and the worship during Nrisimha jayanthi is simply marvellous. There are also several siva lingas around Hyderabad which are of architectural importance. Unfortunately, there are no pujas and naivedya to them but fortunately under the control of State Archeological Musuem. So, these are some of the kshetras that surround Hyderabad. Other than these, there are several temples spread around AP (Pancha arama kshetras and several divya vaishnava temples and devi temples).
