Dear members,

The word “pitha†means the base or the substratum. It is the aasraya

(support) for the principle of Siva-Sakthi. Pitha is the substratum or base

which is the support of the siva & sakthi tattva. This Pitha is of the form of

“Samvit†or “Chitâ€. That is what is given below:

Sveccha vibhaavitha(a)nanthajagat rasmi vilasavath

Naumi samvith mahapitham sivasakthipadaasrayam

This Samvit Kala or Chit Kala is the substratum of all the different saktha

pithas that are spread across the country as 18, 51, 108, 3 and half, 33, etc.

There is an interesting fact regarding the Sakthi Pitha among 108 shaktha

pithas. There is a name called:

Ashwatthe (vrikshe) vandaniyayai namah

There are certain trees that are grown alongwith the Ashwattha (Peepal) Tree.

For example Banyan, Neem etc. are seen to grow from the middle of the trunk of

Ashwattha Tree.

Such an Ashwattha Tree is also worshipped as the form of Shakthi Pitha.

With regards,

Sriram
