Guest guest
Dear members, Every one is aware of dasa (10) Mahavidyas in Tantra. They are Kali, Tara, Sundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi, Prachanda Chandi (Chinnamasta), Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi, Matangi and Kamalatmika respectively. There are corresponding Vidyas in Upanishad also. Interested readers can go through the Chandogya Upanishad to refer the Veda Vidyas. Given below are the Upanishad Vidyas that are corresponding to Dasa Mahavidyas. It is better to learn the Upanishad Vidyas directly from the Gurunatha who is well versed in Vedanta Sadhana especially the Vidyas or Sciences that are mentioned in Chandogya Upanishad. Dasa Mahavidya - Upanishad Vidya Kali Vidya - Prana Vidya / Samsarga Vidya / Mukhya Pranotgita Vidya Tara Vidya - Akshara Vidya or UdgIta Vidya Sundari Vidya - VaisvAnara Vidya Bhuvaneshwari Vidya - ParovarIyasI Vidya Bhairavi Vidya - Muladharopasana Vidya Prachanda Chandi (Chinnamasta) Vidya - Jyotirvidya Dhumavati Vidya - Bhuma Vidya Bagalamukhi Vidya - Indra Yoni Vidya Matangi Vidya - Akshara Vidya Kamalatmika Vidya - Vaisvanara Vidya Some of the Sutras of Upanishad Vidyas: Sandilya Vidya: Sarvatra Brahma Drishtih iti Sandilya Vidya (Upasana of the Brahman as Nirvikara, Niranjana Swarupa as the Substratum of the Cosmos) Bhuma Vidya: Mahat Mounam iti Bhuma Vidya (Rejection of Duality and abiding in one’s swa-swarupa. Upasana for Advaita Siddhi) ParovarIyasi Vidya: Akasa lakshye Drishtih iti ParovarIyasi Vidya (Concentrate of Mahakasa and dissolving the Drik-Drshya and abiding as Drshta) Dahara Vidya: Hridaya Akase iti Dahara Vidya (Concentration of Chitkala in one’s heart cave (Hridaya Guha). Chitta Laya is achieved) Akshi Purusha Vidya: Drishih Drashta va lakshyam chet iti Akshi Purusha Vidya (Parama Jyoti or the Supreme Purusha as Effulgent Sun (Aditya) is meditated in the iris of the Right Eye thereby achieving the Sakshi Bhava by dissolving of Drik-Drshya. The upasaka abides as a form of Witness or Sakshi ). Samvarga Vidya: Prana gatyanveshaNam iti Samvarga Vidya (Concentration and awareness of one’s breath and hamsopasana) Akshara Vidya: Antara SvarAnusandhAnam Akshara Vidya (This is Pranava Upasana / Omkaropasana) Mantrodgita Vidya: MantrAksharAnusandhAnam iti Mantodgita Vidya (The japa of mantras which includes Veda Parayana and BijAksharas including Tantrika Mantras fall into this category of Vidya. This is also the Nadopasana where the upasaka meditates on the origin of Mantra Nada. The devata anugraha of that particular mantra is the Siddhi) Jyotir Vidya: AntarUshmAnusandhanam Jyotir Vidya (A form of Akshara Vidya but upasaka visualizes the Akshara as Supreme Effulgence or Jyoti) Sat Vidya: Atma Jnapthi Ravichalitha iti Sadvidya (This is the Atma Vichara or reflection on “Who Am I†and abiding in one’s own Supreme Self) Viswanara Vidya: UttaragAtra Lakshya Buddheh iti Vaiswanara Vidya (The bhavana of “Idam Asmi†leads to vishaya vasana. By negating this vishaya vasana and abiding in the consciousness as “aham asmi†where only the Self alone shines is the Vaisvanara Vidya) Madhu Vidya: Prakasa Lakshya iti Madhu Vidya (Upasana of Aditya as Supreme Effulgence and its Rays of Rashmis as Deva Madhu) Purushodgitha Vidya: Hiranmaya Purusha Lakshya iti Purushodgitha Vidya (Upasana of Parama Purusha in Aditya Mandala and realizing its identity with the Purusha that is present in our eyes) Indra Yoni Vidya: Upa Jihva Lakshya iti Indra Yoni Vidya (The concentration during Indra Yoni Vidya is on Uvula or the lump of flesh that hangs upside down at the end of the tongue (Antar Jihva)) Varuni Vidya: Jihva rasa lakshya iti Varuni Vidya (The upasaka meditates on the Rasa-tattva at the tip of the tongue) All these vidyas are the royal paths that lead to the realization of Supreme Self – the Atman. Among all these Vidyas, Dahara Vidya, Sadvidya, Akshi Purusha Vidya and Bhuma Vidyas are the royal vidyas for triputi bhedana. For further reference, please go through the Chandogya Upanishad. Guest guest
Namaste Sriram, Thanks for this informative post. I found a website which lists 32 vidyA-s in main upanishad-s with reference to the exact location of these vidyA-s in upanishad-s. http://www.ramanuja.org/sv/vedanta/vidyas.html The list however does not cover ParovarIyasI , and Indra-Yoni vidya. Could you add these missing details? (Which upanishad mentions these and in which portion?) It is best if we can study the upanishad equivalent of any vidyA. Thanks, and regards, Shrinivas , venkata sriram <sriram_sapthasathi wrote: > > Dear members, > > Every one is aware of dasa (10) Mahavidyas in Tantra. Guest guest
Dear shrinivas, ParovarIyasi means " utkrishta " which implies Brahma Vidya. The method applied is " Drik-Drishya Viveka " . And Indrayoni vidya is Bhrigu Vidya. The acharya for this vidya is Varuna. With regards, Sriram , " Shrinivas A. Gadkari " <sgadkari2001 wrote: > > Namaste Sriram, > > Thanks for this informative post.
