Guest guest
Dear ganapati, Namaste. This is the rare photograph of mahaperiyavar where Swamigal is playing Manikya Vina in the Kamakshi Temple in front of Devi Kamakshi. Indeed people are blessed who had the darshan of this form of Kamakshi in the form of Periyavar. Infact, South India witnessed 3 stalwarts in 20th century and blessed are the souls who saw them. They are Mahaperiyavar, Ramana Maharishi and Seshadri Swamigal of Tiruvannamalai. I donot know how Periyavar got this vina but i heard from some of the disciples that Swamigal was quite close to the descendants of Shri Muthuswami Dikshitar, one of the great musicians apart from Shri Tyagabrahmendra Saraswathi (Tyagaraja), Shri Shyama Shastry. And i donot know whether the Vina played by Shri Dikshitar and the Swamigal are same or not. If anybody has any information regarding the descendants of Shri Dikshitar and his Vina that was gifted by Devi Saraswathi, i would like to have a glance at it. Guest guest
RA. Ganapathy of deivathhin Kural fame, during an interview with Sathya Sai Baba has confirmed, baba as saying that Maha Swamy - as an avthar for Karma yoga, Aurrobindo as an Avthar for path of yoga and Bhagwaan Ramana for Gyana yoga. The greatness of our eternal Dharma can be attributed singly due to such avathars taking human birth, frequently , atleast once in a decade and they demonstrate the truth of our Vedic dharma and its various path. The problem is when one is dependent on a single prophet who lived long back and when his teachings get totally misinterpretted on passage of time.. regards Ganapathy --- Vijaya " Jai Bhavani " --- On Mon, 9/15/08, sriram <sriram_sapthasathi wrote: sriram <sriram_sapthasathi Re: A Photo Sri Sri Chandrasekharendra sarasvati svaamigaL Monday, September 15, 2008, 1:48 AM Dear ganapati, Namaste. Guest guest
Namaste Sriram, This is a beautiful photograph indeed. Sri Kamakshi plays this Manikya Veena every year on Vijayadasami. Coming to your doubt if this could be the veena played by Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar, no, it isn't. The Veena played by Sri Dikshitar has the Yalimukha turned upwards, as opposed to the usual downwards facing ones. Moreover it has " Rama " etched on it in Devanagari. Sri Ganga Matha blessed Sri Dikshitar with this rare Veena when he was in Varanasi. The whereabouts of this divine Veena is presently unknown. The last it was known to be with a descendent of Dikshitar, who incidently was also known as Muthuswami Dikshitar. He lived in Coimbatore and also treasured Vallabha Ganapathi, Rajarajeshwari, Meru prastaram and Subramanya murthis worshipped by the avathara purusha. A friend once forwarded me a picture of this veena. I will have to check my mails. If found, I'll be happy to share it here.
