Guest guest
OM Namo Durgaa.. Dear All, This is my first post, could somebody please clarify me regarding Devi Mahatyam/Durga Sapthasati/Chandi Path. I heard that before one should start reciting Durga Sapthasati, that it is cumpulsory to chant the Beeja Mantra one Lakh times? Then only we should attain the Phalitha. Is that true? Because i am planning to start reciting Durga Sapthasati on the eve of coming Navarathi days. And is there any initiation needed to start this? I am living in hyderabad, if somebody can guide me to get initiation if needed. Please please guide me the best way to celebrate this Navarathri. Thanks & Regards, Sri Krishna Deva Roy. Guest guest
The devotee has to get initiated to Navashari mantra before he becomes eligible to chant it. Guest guest
Dear Krishna, Namaste. Durga / Chandi Sapthasati is from Markandeya Purana. So, the same can be read even though you are NOT INITIATED IN NAVAKSHARI MULA MANTRA. THE PROCEDURE IS YOU SHOULD OMIT BOTH PURVA AND UTTARA ANGAS: PURVA ANGA: KAVACHA, ARGALA, KILAKA, RATRI SUKTA, NAVAKSHARI UTTARA ANGA: NAVAKSHARI, DEVI SUKTA, RAHASYA TRAYA YOU SHOULD NOT PERFORM THE SAPTHASATI MALAMANTRA NYASA. JUST DO THE PARAYANA OF SAPTHASATI FROM 1ST CHAPTER TILL 13TH CHAPTER AS A PART OF MARKANDEYA PURANA. DO THE CHANDIKA DHYANA. SINCE, YOU ARE FROM HYDERABAD, I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TO BUY THE BOOK " DEVI MAHATMYAM " WHICH IS AVAILABLE IN RAMAKRISHNA MUTT BOOK STALL, LOWER TANK BUND ROAD, HYDERABAD. YOU CAN DO THE SAPTHASATI PARAYANA WITHOUT ANY APPREHENSIONS PROVIDED YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT ARE MENTIONED ABOVE. BEST OF LUCK FOR THIS NAVARATRI. SHUBHASYA SHIGRAM..... Guest guest
Dear ganapati, Sapthasati, per se, is from Markandeya Purana. The chapter 1 which starts from " sAvarnih sUrya tanayO….. " till the 13th chapter " ….sAvarNih bhavitA manuh " form a part of Markandeya Purana. This can be chanted as a Purana like Devi Bhagavata, Siva Purana, Bhagavata, Hari Vamsa etc. But when Shadangas as Purva and Uttaranga alongwith Navakshari is added, Sapthasati becomes MALA MANTRA. These are the words of my gurunatha and I also remember Shri Harsha Ramamurthyji writing to me on this issue. It is this MALA MANTRA which is prohibited by Non-initiates. Otherwise, Sapthasati, per se, as a part of Markandeya Purana, can be chanted independently. IF THAT IS THE CASE, IS NAVAKSHARI REQUIRED FOR THE PARAYANA OF MARKANDEYA PURANA? By the way, regarding this, just know I got it confirmed from Shri Narahari Bhatt, Asthana Srividyopasaka of Sringeri, Shri Navin Holla, Tarka Acharya and Chandikopasaka in Sringeri, Shri Krishna Bhatt, Vedic Principal. They said that parayana of Sapthasati, per se, is harmless and No Yogini Shapa is incurred. By the way, I would personally get the swamigal's words confirmed when I personally meet Shri Swamigal in Sringeri. Guest guest
Dear ganapati, So, i understand that to chant the Brahmanda Purana, Lalitopakhyana, Devi Bhagavata and Markandeya Purana, Panchadasi, Bala, Navakshari are required? Is that So? By the way, i would tell why swamigal initiated purohitas into navakshari. Those purohitas did samkalpa with kamya prayoga in the sabha. FOR PRAYOGAS AND SAPTHASATI PARAYANA WITH GOTRA, NAMA, TITHI, VARA WITH SAMKALPA AND FOR GIVING TIRTHA PRASADA FOR OTHERS, NAVAKSHARI IS MANDATORY. This remind me an incident from Andhra Desa. A purohita performed Sapthasati parayana and gave the tirtha to Chandrasekhara Bharati. Swamigal asked the purohita whether he had navakshari. He said No. Immediately swamigal arranged for upadesa. Most of the people only know this incident. But real background is that the Purohita performed Kamya Prayoga and hence Swamigal admonished the purohita and arranged for Navakshari upadesa. So, FOR NISHKAMA PARAYANA OF SAPTHASATI, PER SE, WHICH FORMS THE PART OF MARKANDEYA PURANA, NAVAKSHARI IS NOT REQUIRED. This is parayana of Markandeya Purana with the Charitra of Savarni Manu which is a purana pathana. Guest guest
Dear Sriram, Atleast what I have heard from avatara purushas, I can quote with authority. As per Maha Perival's minimum Bala is necessary to chant Lalitha Sahasranama. Regarding others I do not know. Tuesday, September 16, 2008, 3:20 AM Dear ganapati, So, i understand that to chant the Brahmanda Purana, Lalitopakhyana, Devi Bhagavata and Markandeya Purana, Panchadasi, Bala, Navakshari are required? Guest guest
Dear ganapati, I am talking of Devi Bhagavata, Markandeya Purana, Lalitopakhyana and other devi related puranas. There are enough discussions on adhikara niryana of LS. Uttarapitika says that Panchadasi is Mandatory. Bala is the minimum requisite of the Sadhaka to TOUCH THE SRIYANTRA. Sampradaya prohibits the non-initiates in panchadasi to chant LS and chakra archana. If he has Bala, he can do the paricharya to the Upasaka by removing the nirmalya. , ganapathy = = vijaya <srividya101 wrote: > > Dear Sriram, > > Atleast what I have heard from avatara purushas, I can quote with authority. Guest guest
Its only with the angas and the sankalpam does the purana bhaga becomes a mala mantra and hence activates the bijas. regards Vishwam ganapathy = = vijaya <srividya101 Tuesday, September 16, 2008 5:59:12 AM Re: Re: it is cumpulsory to chant the Beeja Mantra one Lakh times? Dear Sriram ji as you were that the Bhuvneshwari Bijam is hidden in the first chapter and in so how can it be just as a purana? Tuesday, September 16, 2008, 2:47 AM Dear ganapati, Sapthasati, per se, is from Markandeya Purana.
