Dear members,

The sandhya upasana is the vidhi for all the people irrespective of caste and

gender.

There are 3 types of Sandhya Upasana depending upon the adhikara bheda of the

upasaka.

For madadhikaris, the sandhya worship is prescribed by visualizing the Sandhya

Devi in the Solar Orbit. The deity is visualized as Savitri, Gayatri and

Saraswati in 3 sandhyas.

For the 2nd category upasakas, the sandhya worship is prescribed by

visualizing the Parama Jyoti at the centre of one’s heart (hridaya guha madhye

jyoti sphurana). The Supreme Light is visualized at the centre of the heart

with performance of Pranayama.

For the uttama adhikaris, the sandhya upasana is called “Nirvritti

Sandhyaâ€. Between every mental thought, there is a Silence. This is also

the ‘cusp’ or ‘sandhi sthana’ of two kala tattvas (the cusp of dawn and

morning; the cusp of morning and noon; the cusp of noon and evening; the cusp of

evening and night). Now, Mind is not a continuous flow but is a “bunch of

thoughtsâ€. Between every two thoughts, there is a silence. One has to be

aware of this silence and should abide in this silence. This silence is the

Sandhya which is of “Samvit Kala Swarupaâ€.

Every person irrespective of adhikara bheda, one should perform the sandhya

(even ladies and 4th varna). After the performance of sandhya, one should do

the japa of ishta devata that has been initiated in.

The purana sandhya upasana includes:

Chanting of Prajapati sloka

Chanting of purana gayatri (yo devasavita……tat varenyam upasmahe). By

chanting this sloka, the non-dvijas and women should visualize the sandhya devi

in solar orbit.

Offering of arghya to sun 3 times by chanting the mantra “sandhyAyai

namahâ€

This would take 3 minutes everyday. Then, one can chant “aditya hridaya

stotra†from Ramayana which is a wonderful substitute for Gayatri Mantra.

After performance of sandhya this way, one can pursue one’s own sadhana as

per guru’s instructions.

With regards,

sriram
