Guest guest
Dear members, This is a hymn composed by my gurunatha at the sanctum sanctorum of Kamakshi Temple when he went to have the darshan of Kanchi Mahaperiyaval at Kalavai. My gurunatha shri Sitaramanjaneya Sastry was a great scholar of Vyakarana sastra, Vedanta, Tarka, Mimamsa, Kavya, Nataka and Alankara Sastra. Learnt Vedanta under Shri Vemuri Ramabrahmayya Sastry (guru of Mahamahopadhyaya Goda Subramanya sastry). Did gurusushrusha of Brahmasri Tadepalli Raghavanarayana Sastrigal, Maddulapalli Manikya Sastrigal, Jandhyala Subramanya Sastrigal, Dandibhatla Venkateswara Sastrigal, Mahamahopadhyaya Dravida Rajeshwara Sastrigal. He was initiated into Srividya by HH Kanchi Mahaperiyaval at Kalavai. My gurunatha, though a householder, was initiated into the Turiya Gayatri Vidya, Hamsa Vidya, Akshi Purusha Vidya and Dahara Vidya by Brahmasri Sadhu Srinivasa Sastrigal who inturn underwent all these dikshas from Gollapinni Mallikarjuna Sastrigal of Gadwal Samsthan. Brahmasri Gollapinni Mallikarjuna Sastrigal underwent the srividya diksha from Nrisimha Bharati of Sringeri and Turiya Vidya, Hamsa, Akshi and Dahara vidya from none other than the Virupaksha of Hampi. Lord Siva in the form of Virupaksha initiated into the yogic secrets to shri Mallikarjuna Sastrigal. This Kamakshi Stotram is a small hymn composed by my gurunatha and was dedicated to his Srividya Gurunatha HH Mahaperiyaval who is non-different from Mother Kamakshi of Kanchipuram. Guest guest
Dear Sriram, AFAIK, the Acharya Swamigals of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam do not have the practice of initiating any devotees other than their uttaradikari-s into mantra-s. This is unique to Kamakoti Peetam only. Can you please check on this? Guest guest
Dear sudarshan, Namaste. As far as i know, it is the SANYASA which is forbidden to outsiders other than uttaradhikaris. Srividya and other mantras are given to the qualified upasakas who have the required adhikara. It was mahaswamigal who gave the golden sriyantra, gayatri yantra and ganapati yantra to my gurunatha and initiated in srividya. Swamigal also instructed my gurunatha to write varivasya rahasya. And hence, the work is dedicated to shri swamigal. During the maha mouna vrata which mahaperiyaval observed in 1970, after seeing my gurunatha broke his mouna enquired about the well-being and health of my gurunatha and asked jayendra saraswati to take of Shri Sitaramanjaneya sastry and arranged for the night stay in mutt premises alongwith Shri Kuppa Venkata Appayya Sastry (veda guru of mahaswamigal apart from krishnamurthy sastrigal). This was the day when gayatri suprabhatam that was composed by my gurunatha (which is there in ambaal forum) was dedicated to shri swamigal. But still you want the credentials of my gurunatha, you can enquire with the Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal and ask who Shri Sitaramanjaneya Sastry of Hyderabad (who worked in Adoni as Telugu and Sanskrit Teacher) was. Both HH Jayendra Sarawati and Bala swamigal are very well acquainted with my gurunatha. Moreover, i have met several scholars who were directly initiated by shri mahaperiyaval. I never heard your statement before. It is the TURIYA ASRAMA which is denied. Because the nephew of Kuppa Venkata Appayya Sastry was Shri Kuppa Lakshmavadhani under whom i learnt veda. Shri Lakshmavadhani was denied the sanyasa and was directed by Mahaperiyaval to take the sanyasa from Narayanendra Saraswathi who is also called UGAR SWAMI in Tamilnadu. Now, the grandson of Kuppa Lakshmavadhani is learning Tarka and Mimamsa in Kanchi Pita. with regards, sriram sudarshan balasubramanian <sudarshanbalasubramanian wrote: Dear Sriram, AFAIK, the Acharya Swamigals of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam do not have the practice of initiating any devotees other than their uttaradikari-s into mantra-s. Guest guest
Dear Sriram, I have no authority to question the credentials of your Gurunatha. I apologise if you seem to perceive so. I just wondered about this since this was not told to me by any third person. It was told to me by Sri Vaidy, who is one of the antaranga kainkaryapara of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal, and also closely related to us. You might be aware of the famous vaidika and pouranika, Vengandur Srivatsa Somadeva Sharma, who is also known to me as my great-grandfather. When devotees would request Paramacharyal for upadesham, he would refer them instead to Sharma, citing the practice prevailing in the Mutt. Moreover, this practice seems to have come into vogue only later to the times of Sri Bhagavannama Bodhendra Swamigal, since His biography speaks about instances of him giving Rama nama upadesham to many devotees. Turiyashrama diksha is reserved by most Peetadhipathi-s only to their uttaradikari-s. Regards, Sudarshan venkata sriram <sriram_sapthasathi wrote: Dear sudarshan, Namaste. Guest guest
Dear sudarshan, Namaste. Not at all dear sudarshan. Infact, i have high regards for you, vaidy, ravi and harsha. I was just citing that swamigal used to give upadesas. My own father-in-law (my wife's father) and Mother-in- law were direct disciples of swamigal. Father-in-law was initiated in panchakshari, ganapati and mother-in-law was initiated in gauri panchakshari. with regards, sriram , sudarshan balasubramanian <sudarshanbalasubramanian wrote: > > Dear Sriram, > > I have no authority to question the credentials of your Gurunatha.
