Guest guest
[One of the chapters in devI bhAgavataM discusses in some depth why both navarAtri-s needs to be performed. Please see the same - Satish] Dear devotees, Hope all of you celebrated navaratri to your hearts content with HER blessings. During this navaratri, this doubt kept coming up in my mind. Kindly clarify--> Navaratri is considered very special to Ambaal. Everyday is special in HER creation. What makes these 9 earth-days special? Is there any geographical, astronomical reason behind this? Is there any special star formations at this time of the year, which favors one if they keep their mind focussed on HER? The legend behind celebrating navaratri is triumph of good over evil. This evil is none other than our own wrong qualities which we harbour in our mind, thoughts like anger, revenge etc. So by doing puja to HER and offering ourselves at HER feet, we get the gnanam and understanding to overcome these evils within us. By doing so, we can progress further. Now, for this to happen, why should we offer such prayers in a special way during this period of Aswija masam in Sharad ritu (similarly with Vasanta navaratri)? If we offer prayers to HER everyday of the year then we will be invoking the 'durga' within us to fight the evils we contain within and win over them, thus leading us to live a satvik life. Hence, I wish to know ...deeper significance behind navaratri celebrations. Clearing this doubt will also help me in understanding the reason behind several other parva dinams in the hindu calendar year. Bala sharanam, Lalitha. Guest guest
Sri matre namah Namaste We can have elaborate post later but to start with 9 days is sanketa or is in reference with 9 months in Matru garbha or mothers womb. So the celebrations start from the appreciation of our birth itself. Is there any reference in the shAstra-s saying the 9 days are symbolic of the child being in womb for 9 months? If so can you please name them? If there are no scriptural references, interpretations like above can be put aside. Best thing to do is to get hold of a complete translation of Devi Bhagavatham and see what it says in the relevant chapter. My book is not with me now.
