Guest guest
Dear Learned Members, Earlier in the post one of our members had asked the question -'why Indrakshi Stotram and Shiva Kavacha Stotram " are recited together? 'would appreciate the members clarification and discussion on this, so that everyone can clearly recognise the significance of such prayers. Many Thanks. Guest guest
Dear sir, Though there is no thumb rule to recite both at a time, it is generally a good practice followed to recite both siva kavacha and indrakshi stotra. Upasana of both sakti and saktimAn ie., power and wielder of power is a good practice and any pratyavAya or dosha in the upasana of shakti is sublimated and negated by the saktimAn or weilder of power. In tantra this principle of sakti and saktimAn are called Bhairavi and Bhairava. And hence, the parayana of Lakshmi Ashtottara is prescribed after the parayana of Vishnu Sahasranama etc. So, going by similar lines, the Indrakshi is the form of Durga basically worshipped to cure prolonged illness, fever, contagious diseases, small pox, chicken pox, visha and tivra jwaras etc. Indrakshi is also called SatAkshi, Shakambari, Gauri and Durga. Satakshi is probably the nearer and closer to Indrakshi. Because Indra has 1000 eyes and since SatAkshi is also having 1000 eyes and with her 1000 eyes She protects Her children from diseases etc. (ref Chandi Sapthasati). So, any doshas or yogini pratyavAya, is countered by Siva Kavacha which acts as an armour during the parayana. Moreover, the objective of the Siva Kavacha is also in line with Indrakshi stavah as it too cures the visha jwaras etc. Wonderful results are observed by doing the parayana of Siva Kavacha and application of mantric bhasma on the forehead. Since, Siva is the Master Healer or the Doctor of Doctors, moreover, since He is the Lord of Durga and other mArI devatAs, probably both have been prescribed. Now, why not Rudra because Rudra is the vedic detiy whereas Siva is the pauranic/tantric deity. In Andhra, there is a wonderful temple dedicated to Indrakshi at Markapuram taluka of Prakasham district. The mother is called " Pedda Amma Varu " in telugu. She is roga nivAriNi and Arogya pradAyini. Hope i am clear and any comments from learned members are welcome. Moreover, it is my observation in this forum that only myself and satish are contributing here. Nobody else is actively participating and sharing their information. This has becomes a one way traffic where i am only contributing to this forum. I request the learned members to come forward and actively participate. just my 2 cents... regs, sriram , " vjayar64 " <vjayar64 wrote: > > Dear Learned Members, > > Earlier in the post one of our members had asked the question -'why Indrakshi Stotram and > Shiva Kavacha Stotram " are recited together? > > 'would appreciate the members clarification and discussion on this, so that everyone can > clearly recognise the significance of such prayers. > > Many Thanks. >
Guest guest
Dear Sriram ji, Indeed your contributions to this list is what keeps everyone engaged. Some time back you had posted a discussion on bhasma and Shiv puja (/message/10959) It would be helpful if you can expand on below mentioned " application of mantric bhasma on the forehead " with reference to your original post #10959. Also, if you have any pointers to various hand positions (mudras?) for recitation of Shiv Kavach, then please enlighten me. , " sriram " <sriram_sapthasathi wrote: > Wonderful results are observed by > doing the parayana of Siva Kavacha and application of mantric bhasma > on the forehead. Guest guest
Dear sunil, I apply the bhasma as per " bhasma jabalopanishad " . Uttering the pancha brahma mantras like sadyojatam..... till IshAnah sarvavidyAnAm... " i take it in my hand and apply a little udaka (water) with mantra " agniriti bhasma... " . Then uttering the Mahamrityunjaya mantra " trayambakam yajamahe.......mukshiya mamritat " , " tryAshusham jamadagneh...... " " ete sahasra mayutam pasha ...sarvanava yajamahe " , apply the bhasma on the forehead. Index finger should not be used for bhasma dharana. If you are not initiated in Satarudriya pata, you can use the panchakshari mantra " namah sivaya " in a similar fashion for bhasma dharana. MIND YOU, DO NOT USE THE SCENTED PALANI VIBHUTI THAT IS BEING SOLD IN THE MARKET. THIS IS NOT A BHASMA BUT A MIXTURE OF CHROME POWDER AND LIMESTONE AND OTHER CHEMICALS. As regards the Siva Kavacha Parayana, Gita Press, Gorakpur has published this work. The nyasas i do is printed in Gita Press book. Apart from this, i do anga nyasa and kara nyasa with siva panchakshari mahamantra and then i resume the parayana. Before starting this parayana, get initiated yourself initiated from a guru who chants this beautiful kavacha. One cousins of the disciple of my gurunatha by name govind bhatt of Delhi was suffering from cancer couple of years back and was a declared hopeless case. During that time, he was initiated into this wonderful Siva Kavacha. He used to do this parayana along with some healing music composed in a particular raga as per his birth star by Mysore datta pithadhipati. After the sadhana of one year, Shri Bhatt is hale and hearty now with his cancerous cells completely coming down. This is the effect of siva kavacha. So, get initiated into the mysteries of siva kavacha and drink its nectar. regs, sriram , " Sunil Vakharia " <s_u_n_i_l_v wrote: > > Dear Sriram ji, > Indeed your contributions to this list is what keeps everyone engaged. > > Some time back you had posted a discussion on bhasma and Shiv puja > (/message/10959) > > It would be helpful if you can expand on below mentioned " application > of mantric bhasma on the forehead " with reference to your original > post #10959. > > Also, if you have any pointers to various hand positions (mudras?) > for recitation of Shiv Kavach, then please enlighten me. > > > , " sriram " <sriram_sapthasathi@> wrote: > > Wonderful results are observed by > > doing the parayana of Siva Kavacha and application of mantric bhasma > > on the forehead. >

Guest guest
Dear sir, Since you have shodasi, so i presume that you have the panchakshari which is the first mantra one is initiated after gayatri. So, without any apprehensions you can take up the siva kavacha parayana. As regards good bhasma, i don't know about chennai (may be some of the members of this forum would guide you). But there is a wonderful authentic bhasma made from cow dung and is used in the worship of Siva at Chidambaram. You can get the bhasma from a nice dishitar of Chidambaram. Guest guest
Bhasma in Chennai: 1)You can contact Shri Shankaranarayanan of this list. 2)It can be obtained from the ShrI vidya Kumkum store near Mylapore temple. I got a packet but did not yet open it. But I hear from many upasaka-s that it is good. I use the one presently sold by ShrI Shankaranarayanan and it is good. , " sriram " <sriram_sapthasathi wrote: > > Dear sir, > > Since you have shodasi, so i presume that you have the panchakshari > which is the first mantra one is initiated after gayatri. Guest guest
The manufacturing process along with the mantras needs to be learnt, at least to be passed on to posterity. Guest guest
Dear Sir,  I have a query regarding Indrakshi stotram. For people who are not initiated in Shodasi, is not initiation into Bhuvaneswari moola mantra a minimum requirement for parayana of Indrakshi Stotram?  Pranams,  Ramachandran  --- On Tue, 4/11/08, sriram <sriram_sapthasathi wrote: sriram <sriram_sapthasathi Re: Indrakshi Stotram & Shiva Kavacha Stotram Tuesday, 4 November, 2008, 3:14 PM Dear sir, Since you have shodasi, so i presume that you have the panchakshari which is the first mantra one is initiated after gayatri. Guest guest
For certain, I'll share it. Can't put any copyrights on that. FYI, a couple of Vaideekas prepare this every year on Shivarathri at the Kanchi Mutt premises at Kanchi and Mambalam. Guest guest
Dear sir, The mula mantra of Indrakshi is given in the Indrakshi Stotram itself. Pl. refer it. So, gurunatha while initiating the stotram also imparts the mula vidya simultaneously. So, without indrakshi mula mantra, one cannot comprehend the Indrakshi stotra exclusively. Because it is a part and parcel of it. Please donot make the hotch potch of mantras. For every tantric deity, there is mantra sanketa, puja sanketa and chakra sanketa. To worship a particular deity, to chant her sahasranama, to wroship her yantra, to chant her kavacha / panjara / hridaya, one must be initiated in the corresponding mula mantra of the deity. regs, , Ram Ramachandran <kodsubram wrote: > > Dear Sir, >  > I have a query regarding Indrakshi stotram.
