Guest guest
Dear members, The Mahendragiri Hills is situated in the middle of Eastern Ghats in the Parlakhe Mundi Division of Gajapati district which is around 175 kms from Berhampur. Berhampur falls in the border of Andhra and Orissa state. The river Mahendratanaya flows down the hill. The Mahendragiri Hill is 5000 feet high which is famous for the penance of Lord Parashurama. It is also said that the pandavas during their exile installed a beautiful Siva Linga which is in line with the linga at Gokarna kshetra. It is approached from Berhampur by three routes. First is via Parlakhe Mundi via Palasa. Second is via Rayagada. Third is via Icchapur – Jarada route. But the first route is quite easy. Transport is available from Parlakhe Mundi like 7-seater autos, buses, jeeps etc till Burkhat pass. From there one has to walk till the foot hill and again from there transport system is available till the hill top. Beautiful cottages are available and is also a wonderful place for mountaineering, trekking and sight seeing. The interesting part is the Shri Kavyakanta Vashishta Ganapati Muni alongwith his dearest disciple Brahmarishi Daivarata performed severe penances here for 20 days. On the last Lord Parashurama and Dakshinamurthy gave the darshan a secluded place which is still preserved till date. Ganapati Muni received instructions of Srividya by Parashurama here and re-christened the Linga here as “DAHARA GOKARNESHWARA LINGAâ€. Brahmarishi Daivarata (who happens to be from Gokarna kshetra) used to take care Ganapati Muni and his wife Visalakshi in all possible ways. He too did severe penance of Durga Sukta Parayana and Nila Saraswati Japa Anushtana and attained mantra siddhi in Tara Vidya. As per the instructions of Lord Parashurama, Ganapati Muni initiated Shri Daivarata into the Maha Shodashi, Purna Diksha and Gurupaduka Mantras. Vashishta Ganapati Muni had the idea of writing commentary on Parashurama Kalpa Sutras and commenced it but the ways of Divine Mother are strange. His health began to decline and finally shed his mortal coil in Kharagpur. Now, last month, the holy padukas (the wooden sandals worn by Vashishta Ganapati Muni) have been duly installed at his birth place of Kaluvarai in Andhra Pradesh with pomp and gaity. A small ashram having a Siva linga and his literature is also being proposed to be displayed in the ashram premises at Kaluvarai. Prostrations to the Vashishta Ganapati Muni who is the amsha avatara of Dundi Ganapati, Agni Purusha of Rg Veda and Suryanarayana of Arasavelli.
