The positions adopted by shrI Shankaranarayanan-Manalianamika and

Diwakar-Sriram are parts of a continuum and not isolated sets of

ideas.

One will find individuals who have that cosmic/higher outlook but

when it comes to day to day life, they still adhere to the yama and

niyama both for their benefit(whatever minimal it might be) and for

the benefit of the society at large.

So there is really no need to look upon those who adhere to

shauchAshaucha-s as caught in webs or nets.

Rules in this field are meant to be transcended but should never be

transgressed. And one transcends yama/niyama only by strict adherence

or through an instant-realization(this is ofcourse very very rare) of

fruits of earlier austerities.

One will also find a similar stance as above in the works of the

trika tAntrika abhinavagupta.

Thanks for this interesting thread as I have been trying to

understand the differences (if any) between Samayachara and

Dakshinachara. I have read earlier posts including in this group that

they are the same; and also posts here and elsewhere that there are

differences between the two in terms of internal/external worship. Is

it likely that there are sampradayas that follow to a varying degree

of internal/external worship but not either in entirety? Please donot

mistake my reference to external worship as Vamachara but I am

referring to Dakshinachara. Thank you.
