Guest guest
[Previous parts of post on human body edited - Moderator] Benefits of Chanting Lalitha Sahasra namam Om Sree Maha Ganapathaye Namah Om Sree Maha Saraswathaye Namah Om Namo Narayanaya Om Namasivaya Om Sree Anjaneyaya Namo Namah In this materialistic world, with an intention to create a mind devoted to mankind, sincere love, unity and by thus to God and avoid hatred and animosity towards our enemies, chanting of Sree Lalitha Sahasra Namam, a Sanskrit namavali from the ancient Brahmanda Purana, forms an integral part. It is natural that, we mankind has to face many obstacles and set backs in our life. However, it is our will to conquer them makes us successful in our endeavours. We should have the Belief, Confidence and Determination to try for this. Some cases these qualities are in-born. But for many these are developed. A useful and beneficial method to develop this is by seeking solace in God by chanting prayers knowing their meanings. It will give the most advantageous benefits if one chants keerthans and namavalis with their meanings in mind. He/She will be able to express more and get closer to God. May I with the blessings of Goddess Sree Lalithambika (otherwise called as Durga ma, Kali ma, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Bhagavathi, etc, etc) list some of the benefits of regular chanting of Sree Lalitha Sahasranamavali. This is the most favoured form of prayer to Goddess Lalithambika and it is also very secret and powerful than any other forms of Tantra or Mantra. Regular chanting of Sree Lalitha Sahasranama is as beneficial as visiting religious places, taking bath in a holy river, offering food, offering materials. It is an indirect blessing to those who cannot do these kind of offerings to God. Regular chanting of Sree Lalitha Sahasranama will ward off the evil from uncompleted pooja vidhis or rituals etc. It will also form a way of penance. Regular chanting of Sree Lalitha Sahasranama will ward off premature death, will provide a long and contended healthy life. Fever can be cured by religiously chanting Sree Lalitha Sahasranamam by touching on a persons forehead. The number of times you chant the more benefit you are likely to get. The vibhuti used for Sree Lalitha Sahasranama archana can be applied then on the forehead, which will give much relief to fever and headache. It is said that if one chants religiously Sree Lalitha Sahasra Namam keeping a glass of water (or in a vessel) in front and then pours it over the head, all sorts of troubles related to once planetary positions and from evil spirits will be warded off. It is said that if a person chants Sree Lalitha Sahasranama keeping in mind a picture of Sree Lalitha Devi situated in the divine ocean which contains `Amrut' , he will be cured from any kind of disease related to poison. It is said that if a person consumes ghee, which is kept while chanting Sree Lalitha Sahasra namam, he will be cured of impotency and will have children. Regular chanting of Sree Lalitha Sahasra namam will ward off any kind of evil deeds or rituals (black magic) aimed at the person who chants the namam. The power derived from the chanting supersedes all other forms of prayers and the person will no more require to consult astrologers or any sorts of occultists. He will have tremendous self confidence in himself. Through the regular chanting of Sree Lalitha Sahasra namam, the atmosphere will be purified. Each nerve in our body will be invigorated and subtle energies will be awakened in the person. Sree Lalitha Devi will protect a person who regularly chants Sree Lalitha Sahasra namam from accidents and from the attacks of enemy and will make him victorious in all his good deeds. Regular chanting of Sree Lalitha Sahasra namam will make a person blessed with word power, fame, good will etc. Particular importance should be given to chant Sree Lalitha Sahasra namam on Friday's which is very auspicious for the blessing of Devi. Sree Lalitha Sahasra namam is the form of prayer that any one and every one can chant at any time and every time. It does not matter if one could not complete it. Because each of the namam in itself is powerful and will provide all sorts of benefits. It depends on what you wish and how you go about it. It is said that chanting the name of Lord Siva once is as good as chanting the name of Mahavishnu a thousand times. And chanting the name of Devi once is as good as chanting the name of Siva, a thousand times. And of which Sree Lalitha Sahasra namam is the most important one to Sree Lalitha Devi herself. It is very beneficial if all members of the family unite and chants Sree Lalitha Sahasra namam once in a day in the evening or whenever time permits. A family that prays together stays together. It will bring about unity, peacefulness, clear mind to perform and by thus prosperity. In homes where Sree Lalitha Sahasra namam is chanted regularly there will never be any shortage of the basic necessities of life. This is the reason why the ancient Gurus would instruct their desciples to chant Sree Lalitha Sahasra namam even after initiating them into the mantras of other deities such as Lord Krishna, Lord Rama and other Gods and Goddesses. It is also to be noted that by religiously chanting Sree Lalitha Sahasra namavali, we are seeking the blessings of Sree Lalithambika, who is also called Kalima, Durga ma, Devi, Parasakthi, Bhagavathi etc, who in turns is the universal mother. And how can a mother ignore her children when they are in distress or duress or troubles of any sorts? So keep utmost faith in her and start chanting. Each one of the namam by itself is a powerful weapon for many sorts of day-to-day problems. The importance and benefits and related stories of each one of them will be listed successively in our page as per the wish of Sree Lalithambika. Lalitha Sahasranamam can be chanted in two different ways. One in Stotra form and the other in mantra form. In Stotram form, all 1,000 namams are separated into stotrams of a few namams each and recited in this way. In mantra form, each namam is said individually, preceded by " Aum " and followed by " Namah " . When chanted in mantra form, the endings of each namam are generally changed to " e " or " yai " . Mantra form is commonly used to recite Lalitha Sahasranamam during archana. Both ways, however, are equally effective. " if we can do archana of the thousand names of the Divine Mother daily with devotion, we will grow spiritually. There will never be lack of life's essentials, food and clothing, in a family that chants the Lalita Sahasranama with devotion. Guest guest
Hi Dilip, I notice that you mentioned in your mail " It is said that chanting the name of Lord Siva once is as good as chanting the name of Mahavishnu a thousand times. And chanting the name of Devi once is as good as chanting the name of Siva, a thousand times " I have heard from many learned people including my guru saying that, Chanting Mahavishnu's name once is equal to chanting Lord Shiva's name thousand times, and chanting Mahavishnu's name thousand times is equal to chanting Lalitha devi name once, that is why lalitha Sahasranamam is so special and powerful. Please pardon my ignorance and my mistake of pointing this out. Sri Matre namaha Sri Lalithambikayai namaha. Guest guest
Dear sir, As advised by Satish, please do not bother about the efficacy of Sahasranama whether it is Vishnu, Siva or Lalitha. But Dilip is right in mentioning the efficacy the LS Phala sruti, per se. Please go through the uttara pata of LS. 1000 names of vishnu is equivalent to a single Name of Siva. 1000 names of Siva is equivalent to single name of Lalitha. And hence, LS is the most potent of all Sahasranamas. Thus says the phala sruti. regs, sriram , Abhiadya <abhiadya wrote: > > Hi Dilip, > > I notice that you mentioned in your mail > > " It is said that chanting the name of Lord Siva once is as good as chanting the name of Mahavishnu > a thousand times. Guest guest
Rightly said Mr Satish. How does it matter if the black cat catches the rat or the white one, the objective is to catch the rat. It doesn't matter whether its Siva or Vishnu or Amba, its the devotion and the surrender towards the Divinity. If all my friends were to jump off a bridge, I wouldn't jump with them. I will be at the bottom to catch them. --- On Tue, 11/18/08, Abhiadya <abhiadya wrote: Abhiadya <abhiadya Re: Some benefits of Lalitha Sahasranamam Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 12:19 PM

Now, dont we run into contradictions if we take above literally? The fact that such a statement as above exists in LS phala shruti shows that LS came** long after shiva and viShNu sahasranAma-s. Since S and V 1000s are probably not aware of the existence of LS at their time, you dont find similar gradations in them. That said it has to be agreed that LS is a very potent mAlA mantra when it is acquired through proper dIkSha. **One can probably reconcile by thinking that, that which is the essence of LS is ever present and only that it was revealed(or *seen- by a seer*) in the form of LS at a later stage..? Guest guest
Could be! A similar thing is mentioned in phala sruti of Lalithopakhyanam that a thousand chandi / sapthasathi parayanas is equivalent to a single parayana of Lalithopakhyana. So, it can be concluded that Markandeya Purana existed before Brahmanda Purana. Or Lalithopakhyanam is the later developments after Chandi Sapthasathi. Probably we may have to go back to the history to dig out these things. sriram , " Satish " <satisharigela wrote: > > , " sriram " <sriram_sapthasathi@> > wrote: > > > But Dilip is right in mentioning the efficacy the LS Phala sruti, > per > > se. However,in a way all things like saptashati,LS etc regardless of the time period when they became popular presentations(i.e. the time frame when they were seen and codified into works) are eternal. We should also note that the lalitopakhyAna(LPK) of BP was appended to it later. If I remember right a member once mentioned that in some places in the North, they have it as part of lalitArchana-chandrika and not as part of BP. Guest guest
Sriram observes ( 1000 names of vishnu is equivalent to a single Name of Siva. 1000 names of Siva is equivalent to single name of Lalitha. And hence, LS is the most potent of all ) May i also add rama rameti rameti, rame rame manorame; sahasra-namabhis tulyam, rama-nama varanane. Lord Siva addressed his wife, Durga: " O Varanana (lovely-faced woman), I chant the holy name of Rama, Rama, Rama and thus constantly enjoy this beautiful sound. This holy name of Ramacandra is equal to one thousand holy names of Lord Visnu (Visnu-sahasra-nama-stotram). " In the Brahmanda Purana it is stated: sahasra-namnam punyanam, trir-avrttya tu yat phalam; ekavrttya tu krsnasya, namaikam tat prayacchati. " The pious results (punya) achieved by chanting the thousand holy names of Visnu (Visnu-sahasra-nama-stotram) three times can be attained by only one utterance of the holy name of Krsna. " So, Each devotee will claim that chanting the 1000 names of their ishta nishta is the most potent of all ! and the most interesting point is Sri Lalita devi herself requested Adi shankara bhgvadapada to write a commentary on Sri vishnu sahasaranama while the acharya wanted to wwrite a commentary of sri Lalita sahasaranam! Here , i would like to share a story from Kena upanishad " According to this story, the devas once decided to celebrate their victory over the asuras. At this festival, all the devas were filled with a feeling of self importance and pride in their own prowess. To cure them of their egoism, God appeared in the form of a Yaksham, a bright apparition which touched the earth below and the heavens above. The identidy of this phenomenon the devas were unable to comprehend. Agni (fire) was sent to find out what it was. To a question from the Yaksham, Agni said that he was Jatavedas having the power to reduce anything and everything to ashes. Thereupon, the Yaksham threw in front of Agni a blade of grass and asked him to consume it. Even though Agni concentrated all his powers, he was unable to burn it. He came back humbled. Similarly, Vaayu or Maatarisva also failed to move the blade of grass, even though he concentrated all his fury to blow it off. Finally, Indra, the Lord of the Devas, approached the Yaksham. The apparition vanished and before the crest-fallen Indra stood the form of a damsel whose lustre illuminated the entire place. She was no other than Uma or Haimavati, the Divine Mother, from whom every one and everything derives sustenance. This jyoti-swaroopa informed Indra that the Yaksham who was present a while back was no other than Paramatma, the source of all energy and life, and that if the devas had succeeded in conquering the asuras it was due to the grace of that Paramatma. Indra became enlightened and humble and he communicated this knowledge to the other devas. The knowledge destroyed the demon of egoism from their hearts, which then became pure. Uma, the Divine Mother, is the personification of pranava (Om). She is brightness in light and fragrance in flowers. She has the illumination of a thousand suns and yet has the soothing coolness of a thousand moons. Along with Isvara, she is the Paramatma-swaroopa sung by the Vedas.
