Namaste, :-) Yes. The reason for bringing up is to show that just as you have interpretations which put the left paths at a lower level, they too have similar ways to showing that samaya is something lower. > Samayachara, Kaulachara and Misrachara based on the > Kerala, Kashmira and Vanga Acharas. That D and V came later does not logically follow. > > Kaulachara is the bahya varivasya which involved the external >rituals > as per Kalpa Sutras. The ultimate aim in kaulAchAra is also to transcend rituals. A great kaula is one who has transcended the need for rituals. It is a purely mental process. >The grosser form of Koulachara which involves > bahya puja involving all sorts of " non-sense rituals with makara- > panchaka " is Vamachara. :-) Non-sense only for non-initiates, definitely not for those who graspd the underlying metaphysics. > But Samayachara involves none of these. Samayachara involves no > external rituals. Then why speak much about it? Only 1 in a thousand upAsaka-s will qualify for this, just like it is a rare thing to see a kaula who transcended the need for rituals. Do you see now that the notion *only* samayAchAra = no rituals, is not correct because the highest kaula-s also perform no rituals? I have no comments on the elaborate explanation given about samayA. Such elevating explanations one can find for the word kaula also. They are plenty of works which deal with that and one may refer to them. The point of mentioning this is that just like there are fancy explanations for the word samaya, so does the word kaula. Example: See the following statement from a kaula work, kaulaGYAnanirNaya: " Thus, O Devi, have been declared the characteristics of the Kaulika body lingam. Any other (external linga) one should abandon, such as those made of stone, wood or clay. The ordinary path is devoid of success and liberation. (28-30) " - From shivashakti.com There is much more: See how it teaches that all external icons and external rituals should be shunned(ofcourse after one has reached that state). Hopefully it did not look like I am taking sides.
