Guest guest
There was an interesting note in a paper on jagannAtha saying that there was an incident mentioned in viShNudharmottara where nR^isiMha emerges out of a shiva-linga. Also it seems that the kevala nR^isiMha image in Podagad in Nawarangpur district is worshipped by teh local tribals as bhairava in addition to Lord jagannAtha being worshiped as both bhairava and nR^isiMha. To the North of Podagad in Orissa near the the foot of a hill exists another kevala nR^isiMha image in a temple which is worshipped as bhairava-nR^isiMha. One could see why rAmAnuja tried to change the rituals in this temple, but there is a story saying that the devata(nR^isiMha) moved him out of Puri for attempting this change. Guest guest
The entire belt of Orissa, Bengal and Assam was under the influence of Shakti cult. The true facts have been hushed up (for no reasons) by Vaishnavas. The the deity Krishna, Subhadra and Balabhadra whom the people know is also a controversial version. These 3 were entirely different aspects of bhairava cult and hence there is a corresponding yogini called Vimala in the temple premises. There are ashta shambhus surrounding this place. The bhairava-bhairavi surrounded by ashta bhairavas in 8 directions was supposed to be the great spot / kshetra for shakti upasana. The sravanabelagola where we witness the ritual of " mahamastaka abhisheka " to the Mahavir jain in Mysore, was once a great shakta spot where the great goddess is called " Kushmandeshwari " . Just as there there are islamic and christian onslaughts on Hinduism, there were Buddhist/Jain onslaughts. And thanks to our Ramanuja who was responsible for mass conversions and introducing the vaishnava rituals in siva/shakti temples. with regards, sriram , " Satish " <satisharigela wrote: > > There was an interesting note in a paper on jagannAtha saying that > there was an incident mentioned in viShNudharmottara where nR^isiMha > emerges out of a shiva-linga. So nR^isiMha along with bhairava-shiva seems to be very popular in Orissa from ancient times. > The the deity Krishna, Subhadra and Balabhadra whom the people know is > also a controversial version. > > These 3 were entirely different aspects of bhairava cult and hence > there is a corresponding yogini called Vimala in the temple >premises. Please do not compare Islamic/Christian with Bauddha/jain. The later two are indic in nature and dont share the " mass-murder of non believers " ideology of the former two. Guest guest
From a popular indologist, Jagannath was the place of shakta cult where the Goddess was worshipped as Radha (flanked on either side by her two anga devatas in masculine form. So, the subhadra what we see was Radha (a deity worshipped in Sakti cult) flanked by her anga devatas which we see them now as Krishna and Balabhadra. But some believe Subhadra to be Durga. regs, sriram , " Lavendar, Lilac " <go_kshiiram wrote: > > , " sriram " <sriram_sapthasathi@> wrote: > > > > The entire belt of Orissa, Bengal and Assam was under the influence of > > Shakti cult.
