Guest guest
The great cosmic force which is called the " Chit " has been categorized as 10 shakti tarangAs which envelope the Macrocosm as well Microcosm. These 10 shakti tarangAs have been conceptualized as 10 Supreme Science of Liberation which is termed as Mahavidyas as the term " mahavidya " per se implies the " great science of deliverer and redemption " . The orders of 10-mahavidyas are Kali, Tara, Sundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi, Chinnamasta, Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi, Matangi, Kamalatmika respectively. Thus, for the follower of Sri-kula systems of philosophy where Sundari forms the cardinal principle, Tripurasundari / Rajarajeshwari / Lalitha / Shodasi is the ultimate goddess. But if we visualize Her (the Sakti as a whole which is non-different from Chit) from Dasa-mahavidya perspective, all the 10 Goddess fall into the category of the " Great Sciences of Liberation " where Shodasi falls into 3rd category. So, Shodasi is not the " Ultimate Goddess " but IS A PART OF dasa-mahavidyas. But yes, for the followers of Srikula system, Shodasi is the Ultimate Queen. Needless to mention the remarks of Shri Ramakrishna who says that among all the Goddess, he liked the Sadhana of Shodasi though he was a Kali Upasaka. I have also heard somewhere in Todala Tantra or Shaktanandatarangini (I don't remember), that among all the Goddess in 10-Mahavidyas, Kali Mahavidya shines as the Supreme Knowledge and rest of the goddesses are the emanations of Kali. Even the Shodasi is the form of Kali ie., the Beautiful form of Kali of 16 years old!!!. In Bengal, Orissa and Assam, nobody knows what Lalitha is neither Lalitha Sahasranama is popular. There only Chandi, Tara, Chinnamasta, Bagala works. In Kamakhya also, some of the temples sport with wonderful images of the Goddesses of Dasa-Mahavidyas like Bagala, Dhumavati, Tara etc. The temple of Guhyeshwari in Nepal is just marvelous which is unique of its kind and ladies are generally not advised to enter inside the temple (if they are alone). Here the oozing water in the garbhalaya of Guhyeshwari is considered to be the aspect of Shakta Pitha. Thus, the entire Eastern and the North Eastern Belt vibrates with the mantras of Chandi Sapthasati and the mantras of Dasa-Mahavidyas.
