Guest guest
Dear devotees One of the nAmA in the bAlA sahasranAmA is " trivarNA " . Can you pl enumerate the meaning of this word? Why such express exclusion of the 4'th varNA?? Is there any corelation with the nAmA " varNAshramavidhayinI " in lalithA sahasranAmA? praNAm. Gopi [varNa has lots of meanings other than caste for ex: color. - Satish]
Guest guest
It has nothing to do with caste. Varna means syllable, colour etc. Bala shines with 3 colours as jyothi swarupini. The 3 bijas (vak, kama and sakti) has 3 different colours. It can also be a-ka-tha varna rupini which are 3 in number. It also shines as 3-syllables in " sanketa sara vidya " (vide ref. Jnanarnava Tantra). Don't exclude the poor 4th varna from srividya as " srividya " per se, is meant for all the 4 varnas where panchadasi is called " gayatri for shaktas " . Because the gayatri cannot be chanted by 4th varna, they have their way out towards salvation with panchadasi. with regards, sriram , Gopi <antarurjas wrote: > > Dear devotees > > One of the nAmA in the bAlA sahasranAmA is " trivarNA " . Guest guest
Dear Sriram Thanks for the clarification. When I asked the question, I didnot have caste in my mind at all. I wish I had clarified. Recently during a discussion on dasamahaavidhya and other related devIs, there was a reference to chaNDAli devi, who represents the 4'th varNa since HER pooja is suppose to be difficult/ SHE is difficult to grasp my the upasaka. My doubt came from this aspect , when i heard the name trivarNA. praNAm Gopi Thankfully, SHE has exposed me to some extremely exhaulted upAsakAs, who are suppose to be from the 4'th varNA. If only I could reach the sadhana levels that they have reached...... ._,___
Guest guest
You might be referring to ucchista chandali whose mantra japa is done with tambula in one's mouth. The mantra japa is done with tambula sevana (chewing of pan). Some vamacharis also offer the naivedya to this devata as the leftovers of their food which is quite questionable method. Generally, the karna pishachi upasana is done with this method where 5 morsels are kept aside from one's food plate and offered to K.Pishachi. Anyway, i don't want to delve into these upasanas as they neither of any interest to me nor it is of any use to me. Neither these are to be revealed in forums like this. regs, sriram , Gopi <antarurjas wrote: > > Dear Sriram > > Thanks for the clarification. When I asked the question, I didnot have caste in my mind at all. Guest guest
Respected Sriram sir and other senior members,i am Subramanian from southern Tamilnadu.Recently i joined this forum.I am not a devi upasaka in the past but i used to tell lalitha sahasranama and trisati and soundarya lahari occasionally.Recently i encountered severe personal problems hence i consulted my astrologer friend who told me that i have been passing through rahu buddhi in chevvai dasa which is very adverse for me as well as for my son and he adviced me to pray kalimata for lessening the problem. But he warned me that the effect of the sin of previous birth will be carried forward to my next birth. Now i am very rigourusly praying kalimata. From tuesday onwards i am chanting 108 times the beeja mantra of kali " om krim kalikaye namaha " daily.Kindly note that only after starting the praying of kalimata, i joined this esteemed forum. After reading the discussions in this forum, i want to get the blessings of shri vidya. Kindly tell me the basic matras or slokas or pooja procedures to pray the srividya so as to enable me to receive her blessings. I am a layman for these pooja rules.Kindly guide me sir On Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 6:29 PM, sriram <sriram_sapthasathiwrote: > You might be referring to ucchista chandali whose mantra japa is done > with tambula in one's mouth. Guest guest
Dear subramaniam, Namaste. I understand your problem but this is a discussion forum which stresses on devotional aspects which is more of a satsanga rather than discussing personal problems. So let us try to avoid discussions on astrology / personal problems etc. My advice is before undertaking any kamya anushtana, you must be initiated in the mantras from guru and its upasana paddhati. Taking mantras just like that from books without initiation may prove fatal and can give negative effects. Don't get yourself entangled in the net of astrologers / feng shuis / nadi jyotishyam as all are fake and absurd. Personally i don't believe in Astrological predictions. Only Upasana Bala works. If you have adhikara of doing gayatri, do sandhyavandana alongwith sahasra gayatri. Get the Chandi Parayana done with any good devi upasaka in Chennai and take the tirtha prasada everyday. You can chant Devi Sapthasloki, Aparajita Stotra (5th chapter of the Chandi Sapthasati and Narayani Stuti (11th chapter of Chandi Sapthasathi) without any apprehensions. In Kali yuga, Chandi Sapthasati works... kalau chandi kalau chandi kalau chandi...... with regards, sriram , SUBRAMANIAN SUBBIAH <arki77 wrote: > > Respected Sriram sir and other senior members,i am Subramanian from southern > Tamilnadu.Recently i joined this forum.I am not a devi upasaka in the past > but i used to tell lalitha sahasranama and trisati and soundarya lahari > occasionally.Recently i encountered severe personal problems hence i > consulted my astrologer friend who told me that i have been passing through > rahu buddhi in chevvai dasa which is very adverse for me as well as for my > son and he adviced me to pray kalimata for lessening the problem. But he > warned me that the effect of the sin of previous birth will be carried > forward to my next birth. Now i am very rigourusly praying > kalimata. From tuesday onwards i am chanting 108 times the beeja mantra of > kali " om krim kalikaye namaha " daily.Kindly note that only after starting > the praying of kalimata, i joined this esteemed forum. After reading the > discussions in this forum, i want to get the blessings of shri vidya. > Kindly tell me the basic matras or slokas or pooja procedures to pray the > srividya so as to enable me to receive her blessings. Guest guest
Dear gopi, When you mentioned " shudra gurus " , that word reminded me of the great Mahayogini Tikka Lakshmmamma Avva who was like Mother for my gurunatha and Brahmasri Gollapinni Mallikarjuna Sastry (the paramaguru of my gurunatha). Lakshmamma Avva hailed from Adoni, Kurnool district where my gurunatha worked as school teacher. There are several shudra yogis & yoginis who played a vital role in the life of my gurunatha and his parama guru shri Gollapinni Mallikarjuna Sastry. This mahayogini belonging to the caste of " untouchables " (as per the present day language). Her name was Tikka Lakshmamma Avva. Born in the caste of chandala – the untouchables, right from her childhood, she used to be seen hanging around the dust bins for left over food and half-licked leaf plates. The water for her drink was the drainage water that used to flow along the dust bins. Most of the time she used to walk naked without clothes. If anybody approached her, she used to throw stones and kick them out of spitting and abusing in rough telugu language. Couple of the people who were blessed by this great yogini were Shri Gollapinni Mallikarjuna Sastry and my gurunatha. During the 1st contact of Mallikarjuna sastry and Tikka Lakshmmamma Avva, Shri Sastry out of her sastra vasana and his " little satvika ahamkara " did not pay respects to the Avva as she hailed from Chandala caste. During the night when sastry sat for antarmukha upasana and shatchakra bhedana, the Kundalini rose and got stuck up at Ajna Chakra. Sastry was surprised. The next day performed the kalpokta chakra archana and was meditating on Kamakala at Bindu sthana. The avva gave the vision amidst bindu sthana saying that because of his indifferent attitude towards her, the Chakra bhedana was not achieved. Immediately, Gollapinni Mallikarjuna Sastry rose from his asana, ran to the spot near the dust bin and prostrated at her feet. Tears were trickling down from Mallikarjuna Sastry's eyes. Mahayogini Lakshmamma Avva, an untouchable belonging to Chandala caste imparted drik diksha and explained some portions of Sankara bhashya from Brahma Sutras. And this incident changed the life of Shri Mallikarjuna Sastry, who received srividya instructions from Nrisimha Bharati of sringeri and Hamsa and akshi purusha vidya from Lord Virupaksha of Hampi himself. Gollapinni Mallikarjuna Sastry loving used to address her as AVVA and Lakshmmamma used to loving address the Mallikarjuna Sastry as ANNA. Both used to discuss terse vedantic topics beside stinking dust bin and flowing sewerage water. That scene was wonderfully described as " Dakshinamurthy in the form of a Lady imparting Jnana to Vriddha shishya " . The Avvas's Ashottara nama, sahasranama and ashtaka was composed by my gurunatha which describes her state of atmic bliss. She used to be in Manonmani Avastha which is described as " Maha Shunya " in our parampara. Even after her passing away from physical plane, she guided in some of the aspects of Yoga to my gurunatha. It needs a special mention that she mastered two of the difficult yogas 1) Lambika Yoga 2) Khanda Yoga. During the nights, she used to separate her body parts and place them in the dust bin. One day, a municipality sweeper unaware of the yogic feat of Avva was collecting the dust from the bin. He was frightened to see the severed pieces of the body of Avva and ran away. After a couple of hours after the dawn he came with a policeman but to his utter surprise the Avva as usual was licking the left overs in the dust bin. She left her mortal coil and her image is installed over her Samadhi. Even today, if anybody in a drunk state happens to sleep near the Samadhi during the night, the next morning he is seen somewhere away from Samadhi. Mother Lakshmamika Avva gives nice deha shuddhi to such people who does mischief at her Samadhi premises. This small article is a homage to the GREAT MAHAYOGINI LAKSHMAMMA AVADHUTA AVVA who transformed the lives of my gurunatha and Mahamahopadhyaya Vedanta Bhaskara Mimamsa Kesari Srividya Vachaspati Brahmasri Gollapinni Mallikarjuna Sastry.
