Guest guest
Dear All, I read somewhere that the Soundarya Lahari was composed on Goddess Mookambika at Kollur by Sri Adi Sankara. Is that true? Can someone enlighten? Also, we know that Sri Adi Shankara composed the Annapoornashtakam on Annapoorneswari - where exactly is this temple/place? Is it the one at Horanadu, Karnataka? Guest guest
Dear raghavendra, Acharya Sankara has mentioned the place of composition and the source of inspiration for composing the stotra " saundaryalahari " . Only thing required is a " carefull " and " serious " study of his work. A cursory glance will not help. While describing the Siva-sakti principle in the respective shat- chakras, Acharya Sankara Bhagavatpada encodes the sthala mahatmya and the presiding deity of Saundaryalahari. Do read it carefully. Any book of " parayana " implies it should be read " carefully " which needs " serious " study which should be thought-provoking which needs critical analysis. Not as a past-time study for the name-sake parayana. As regards the Annapurna Ashtaka, the first stanza itself says that: " kAsi purAdhIshwari, bhikShAm dehi.....mAtA annapUrnEShwarI " So, invariably it must have been composed at the premises of Vishwanath temple. BTW, the presiding deity of Hornad is NOT ANNAPURNA. IT is Rajarajeshwari. Just have a careful glance at the sri-vigraha behind. The small idol of Annapurna was placed just 250 years ago by a local landlord whose kula devata was Annapurna. But the name stuck here as Hornard Annapurna.
