The correct pAThA of shrI sukta in MP3 mode can be downloaded from the link

given below.  ASFIK, this is the correct rg veda pAThA chanted by Kashmiri

pundits.

Also the PDF document is available with svarAs.

http://manasataramgini.wordpress.com/2008/04/22/shri-sukta-of-the-rigveda

The correct pAThA is ‘mama Avaha†rather than “ma Avahaâ€.

" The correct pAThA is 'mama Avaha " rather than " ma Avaha " .

This is not in accordance with the most popular chantings and teachings

available nowadays. This is also not in accordance in the version taught to

me by the priest who used to come to our house. He was trained at Shankara

matham in Kanchipuram. Our ashram , based on our Guruji's teaching, also

chants it as " taam ma Avaha " .

To me, the correct pATha is as it is taught by the Guru.

Thanks.

It is grammatically wrong and unfortunately most of the priests are

teaching the wrong patha.

This doesnot confirm to the vyakarana.

Dear Sriram

I have heard some pandits who hail from the SringerI peeTam chanting the srI

sUktam and it is very similar to what is chanted by the kAnchi maTam pandits. (

well I havent noticed the minor differences like mama Avaha or ma Avaha etc,but

their swarAs seem to sound very similar.)

You quote a lot from things followed at the sringeri peeTam. Would you still say

that the pATha of the Kashmiri pandits is the original?

Not all Vedic grammar conforms to more modern Sanskrit grammar. Sometimes

deviations are made for chhandas or other reasons.

Not all of the teachings of the modern mathas conform to original Vedas.

Even my Guruji or the Shankara Mathams, are not trying to change these

methods of chanting, and accept them as correct.

Thanks.

shrI sukta pATha given out in manasatarangini is a wonderful

original text. I am bewildered how this " learned friend " of mine as

well as satish's got this manuscript. I showed this text to one of

my friends Shri Avatar krishna Kaul, a kashmiri scholar in Hyderabad

who is a direct disciple of Shri Lakshman Joo. Shri Kaul-ji

confirmed the statement affirmatively.

I am also working on some of the old manuscripts of srisukta and

found variations in the text. Srisukta and Asyavamasya sukta are my

two favourite suktas which i am seriously working on.

It has been found that (even the observation of the learned friend)

that in south india, the rg vedic suktas and mantras are chanted

with yajurvedic tone in it which is quite wrong. The intonations

should not be mixed up.

As regards the 'mama " and " ma " avaha, the correct pAtha is " mama

avaha " . This is correct grammatically and also metrically. I will

detail out the vyakarana dosha probably in my next mail when i have

time.

Dear Sriram ji,

Thank you for this wonderful post.

I have looked at several online sources for shrI suktam, but this one

is very different - specially in the second half (phala shruti?).

Here is another version which is my favourite.

Here in South, people who are learning Yajurveda are mixing up the

svaras of Yajurveda and Rg Veda.

The parayana of Manyu Sukta is one such hotch potch.

When it comes to the rk " vijeShakridindrAnavabravO

asmAkam....bhavEha " , the real trouble starts with Yajurvedis who try

to incoporate the yajurvedic swaras in Rg veda.

Also, similarly, with Sushuma, IndrAgni, Vishwedevas, Nasadiya

(which is also found in Udaka Shanti PaTha), Asyavamasya etc.

Incidentally, the Durga Sukta pATha also have slight variations in

mula pATha when observed in manuscripts. It has " bhUtvavita " instead

of " bOdhyavita " in the rik " agne atrivan manasa...... " which is

quite bewildering.

BTW, thanks a lot for your good observation of srisukta.
