Guest guest
Dear All, On this auspicious day of Mahashivaratri, is there any particular sloka that is a must to be chanted? Any sloka that one cannot miss today? Regards, Raghav
Guest guest
Dear raghav, Sorry for the delayed mail. It entirely depends on your availability of time, chitta shuddhi and your dhAraNa shakti. The following are prescribed for hardcore siva bhaktas: 1) shaTkAla siva puja (worshipping siva linga 6 times a day) 2) Siva Panchakshari Japa (21600 times corresponding to our 21600 hamsas or ajapa gayatri) 3) Parayana of Rudra Sukta / Shata rudriya 11 times (corresponding to 11 rudras) 4) Parayana of siva purana 5) Performance of Mahanyasa / Sahasra Lingarchana / Mahalingarchana So, depending upon our time, commitment levels, upasana levels, we can take any form of anushtana. If, one is not initiated in any of these, one can take up the upasana of Siva Mahimnah Stotra of Pushpadanta / Dakshinamurthy Stotra by Shri Sankara Bhagavatpada and reflect on its meaning. I would like to present an interesting incident which took place in Ramana Ashram during one siva ratri in the presence of Bhagavan Ramana Maharishi. Shri TK Sundaresa Iyer in 1908 visited Shri Bhagavan during Mahasiva Ratri. As usual, like other devotees, he too pestered Bhagavan to speak (anugraha bhashana) on the eve of siva ratri and asked Bhagavan to expound the essence of Dakshinamurthy Hymn. The clock went on striking, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, one, two and three. Sri Bhagavan sat and they sat. Stillness, calmness, motionless-not conscious of the body, of space or time. Thus eight hours passed in Peace, in Silence, in Being, as It is. Thus was the Divine Reality taught through the speech of Silence by Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharishi - The Ramana Dakshinamurthy. At the stroke of 4:00 a.m. Sri Bhagavan quietly said: " And now have you known the essence of the Dakshinamurthy Hymn? " All the devotees stood and made pranam to the holy form of the Guru in the ecstasy of their Being. I WOULD LIKE YOU TO UNDERSTAND THIS WHICH IS THE ESSENCE OF DAKSHINAMURTHY STOTRAM. BE CALM, BE STILL AND WATCH YOUR THOUGHTS INSIDE TILL YOUR MIND MERGES AND BECOMES ONE WITH THE SOURCE OF " I " IN THE HEART CAVE (HRIDAYA GUHA). TRY TO CATCH HOLD OF THE " THIEF " WHO IS SITTING INSIDE YOUR HEART CAVE AND WORKING ALL WONDERS THROUGH YOUR MIND. IN SATARUDRIYA WE FIND ONE WONDERFUL NAME CALLED " TASKARANAM PATAYE NAMAH " WHICH MEANS THE ONE WHO IS " LORD OF THIEVES " . With regards, sriram , Raghavendra <mkraghavendra wrote: > > Dear All, > > On this auspicious day of Mahashivaratri, is there any particular > sloka that is a must to be chanted?
