kAtyAyana srauta sUtras differentiates between yAga and hOma.

" tiShTat homa vaShaTkArapradAnA yAjyapuro(a)nuvAkyAvanto yajatayah " says

kAtyAyana.

When the yajna karta offers the dravyas to the fire utterng the mantras like

" vaShaT " in standing position it is called yAga or yajana. So, vaShat, vauShat

etc. are using in Yajna kratus.

" upaviShTahomAh swAhAkArpradAnAh juhOtayah " which means when the yajna karta

offers the dravyas uttering the " swAhA " in sitting position it is called Homa /

Havana. So, Swaha, juhoti etc. are used in Homa.

with regards,

sriram
