Guest guest
Dear devotees, There are different variations in the Annapurna Ashtaka, Mahishasuramardini Stotra. Though, people are chanting it in different ways, but going by vyakarana and chandas, some words does not fit properly. For instance, Annapurna Ashtaka: The 1st stanza runs as: nityAnandakarI varAbhayakarI saundaryaratnAkarI nirdhUtAkhilaghorapAvanakarI pratyakShamAheshvarI | prAleyAcalavaMshapAvanakarI kAshIpurAdhIshvarI bhikShAM dehik.rpAvalambanakarI mAtA.annapUrNeshvarI || 1 O Mother Annapurna ! Ever bestowing Happiness , granting boons, and dispelling fear ! Ocean of beauty who bestows Purity on devotees by destroying all terrible sins ! Thou art the great Goddess who purified the dynasty of Himalayas ! Presiding Deity Of Kashi , O ! Renderer of support and compassion, Grant me Alms ! In the 2nd line, " nirdhUtAkhilaghorapAvanakarI " , ghora-pAvanakari gives incomplete meaning. It should have been " ghora-pApanikari " . The corresponding english translation runs as " destroying all terrible sins " which is a mismatch. So, the correct pATha is: nityAnandakarI varAbhayakarI saundaryaratnAkarI nirdhUtAkhilaghorapApanikari pratyakShamAheshvarI | prAleyAcalavaMshapAvanakarI kAshIpurAdhIshvarI bhikShAM dehik.rpAvalambanakarI mAtA.annapUrNeshvarI Also, the mUla pATha for vAmadeva mantra of Panchabrahma mantras is different. The general pATha which the people are aware of is: // vAmadevAya namo jyeShThAya namah shrEShThAya namo rudraya namah kAlAya namah kalavikaraNAya namo balAya namo balavikaraNAya namo balapramathanAya namah sarvabhUtadamanAya namo manonmanAya namah // Whereas, the lupthAgma sangraha, the mUla pATha of Shri VidyAraNya bhAShya, bodhAyana-prokta MahAnyAsa Kalpa does not have the two names " shrEShThAya " and " balAya " . vAmadevAya namo jyeShThAya namo rudraya namah kAlAya namah kalavikaraNAya namo balavikaraNAya namo balapramathanAya namah sarvabhUtadamanAya namo manonmanAya namah // This mantra also conforms with the nava(9)vyUhAtmaka Siva with corresponding shaktis: vAma, jyEShThA, raudrI, kAli, kalavikaraNi, balavikaraNi, balapramathani, sarvabhUtadamani and manonmani respectively. Interested people can refer bodhAyana Mahanyasa kalpa, vidyAraNya bhAShya. with regards, sriram
