Guest guest
During a certain kratu, the yajAmana has to undergo the siro-munDana ritual (shaving of head - the shikha part is avoided). So, vyuptakEsha indicates the " Rudra in the form of yajamAna who has undergone the ritual of siro-munDana. (YajamAna is also one of the ashta murtis of siva). Shri Abhinava Sankara also refers the Jabalopanishad and says that it also denotes the " Personality of Rudra " who is ever intent in propagating brahmavidya like acharya sankara, dattatreya, durvasa mahamuni etc. In referring kapardi, Abhinava Sankara remembers the Daksha Yajna and the avirbhava of vIrabhadra who also has jaTAjUTa. with regards, sriram

Guest guest
Who exactly was this " abhinava sankara " , his purva asrama details are not known except his magnum opus - a commentary on " Shatarudriya " . 5 people have written commentaries on Shatarudriya. They are : 1) Bhatta Bhaskara 2) Vidyaranya 3) Vishnu Suri 4) Skandaswami (but personally i have not seen this) 5) Abhinava Sankara. Now, regarding this Abhinava Sankara, great wars have been waged between Sringeri Team and Kamakoti Team. Some are of the opinion that Abhinava Sankara lived in 8th century by name Brahmananda Tirtha. As per kamakoti history, Sankara incarnated during 5-6 BC. And hence, named the sankara of Sringeri (of 7-8 Century) to be abhinava sankara as he was as brilliant as the original sankara. Whatever may be the case, the whereabouts of Abhinava Sankara is still untraceable. with regards, sriram , Ramesh Krishnamurthy <rkmurthy wrote: > > Sriram-ji, > > Could you clarify who are you referring to by the term " Abhinava Sankara " ? > > 2009/3/11 sriram <sriram_sapthasathi: > > > > Shri Abhinava Sankara also refers the Jabalopanishad and says that it also > > denotes the " Personality of Rudra " who is ever intent in propagating > > brahmavidya like acharya sankara, dattatreya, durvasa mahamuni etc. > > > > In referring kapardi, Abhinava Sankara remembers the Daksha Yajna and the > > avirbhava of vIrabhadra who also has jaTAjUTa. > > -- > santoShaH paramo lAbhaH satsa~NgaH paramA gatiH I > vicAraH paramaM j~nAnaM shamo hi paramaM sukham II > - yoga vAsiShTha >
Guest guest
namaste, > 4) Skandaswami (but personally i have not seen this) If you are interested, it is available through the Digital Library of India. http://www.new.dli.ernet.in/scripts/FullindexDefault.htm?path1=/rawdataupload/up\ load/0101/871 & first=1 & last=162 & barcode=5990010101869 > Who exactly was this " abhinava sankara " , his purva asrama details are not known except his magnum opus From the introduction to this commentary (Vani Vilas Press) -- " The author of the commentary is stated to be one Abhinava Shankara whose identity is not quite clear. But I am led to consider him as one with the guru of venkatanAtha, the author of brahmAnandagiri -- the most excellent commentary on the bhagavad gIta, published some months ago in the Sri Vani Vilas Sastra series. VenkatanAtha speaks of his guru as abhinava shankara rAma bhrahmAnanda and mentions a work named pAshaNDagajakesari as his. This commentator also is named as abhinava shankara and be also mentions the above work as his. It is quite probable that the two abhinava shankara-s were one and the same and that venkatanAtha wrote a commentary on the pAshaNDagajakesari of his guru. There are but surmises and we have to rest satisfied with them till any manuscript of pAshaNDagajakesari is found out. " Does anyone know if the Gita commentary mentioned above is currently available? bhavadIyaH, ajit On Wed, Mar 11, 2009 at 2:12 AM, sriram <sriram_sapthasathiwrote: > Who exactly was this " abhinava sankara " , his purva asrama details are not > known except his magnum opus - a commentary on > " Shatarudriya " . > > 5 people have written commentaries on Shatarudriya.
