The mUla pATha of Durga Sukta:

The mula patha of durga sukta alongwith sAyaNa bhAShya has only 6 mantras and it

is interesting to note that the 4th mantra has got a correction.

Instead of " bodhyavita tanUnAm " , it is " bhUtvavita tanUnAm " .

The bhAShya for the 4th mantra as per sAyaNa goes like this:

vishvAni no durgahA jAtavedassindhu na nAvA duritAtiparshhi |

agne atrivanmanasA gR^iNAno.asmAkaM bodhyavita tanUnAm.h || 4||

asmAkam tanUnAm avitA bOdhi is the sandhi which means

kindly alert (bOdhi) yourself like a jivanmukta maharishi and

protect (avitA) us (our bodies - asmAkam tanUnAm).

" atri is referred to here as jivanmukta maharishi who has no tApatrayAs.

This is the correct durgA sUkta pATha as suggested by sAyaNa.

with regards,

sriram
