When an english man for example thinks about the word brahman, he will recognise

that the word is loaded with hindu conceptions of the cosmos, since the word has

Hindu origins.

Similarly the word yajna and other hindu words.

 

Now if I look into the veda-s, purANa-s, Agama-s/tantra-s and other Hindu

literature everybody knows ofcourse that you will not find the word god.

 

So where does this come from? It apparently comes from the Bible.

Just like the words brahman, yajna is filled with Hindu notions so is the word

god filled/loaded with christian notions/ideas. We all know that their ideas are

radically different from ours and do not connect anywhere.

 

Given this scenario, isnt it inappropriate on our part to use the word god when

talking about our devata-s, and when talking about brahman?

 

So trash this god-fellow and use let us use words like brahman, deva-s/devata-s

or direct names like shiva, viShNu devI etc.

 

It is unfortunate that some of our compatriots use the words god, one true god ,

monotheism etc so loosely without a proper understanding of the origin and

context of these terms. So much so that this knowledgable gentleman I was

arguing yesterday sounded more of a christian and less of a hindu.

 

I hope others keep this in mind and " get a feel " of the point that I wanted to

drive home.

 

Extract from the Bible- Book of deuteronomy - King James Bible: Notice how this

god is instructing that serving others and not him causes anger and that how he

instructs that the images, altars of other divinities should be destroyed. So

whoever is offended by usage of terms like god-dude or god-fellow should ask

themselves if he is christian or hindu.

1 When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to

possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the

Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the

Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

 

 

2 And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite

them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew

unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.

 

 

4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other

gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee

suddenly.

 

 

5 But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break

down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with

fire.

 

 

6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath

chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon

the face of the earth.
