Guest guest
Dear members, Once in a year, comes these wonderful moments of remembering our beloved sadguru and acharya ie., Vaishakha Shuddha Panchami which happens to be Adisankara Jayanti which falls tomorrow. It is generally a good practice to do the parayana of Sankara Vijaya, perform Bhashya Shanti etc. as per one's capability and availability of time. Or else, one can recite the Guru Parampara Stotra, Dakshinamurthy Stotra and Totakashtakam. In earlier days, saints were reverentially addressed as *Bhagavan* and *pAda* as a mark of respect. For eg., bhATTa-pAda, gauDa-pAda, govinda-pAda, abhinavagupta-pAda etc. So, our acharya sankara was also lovingly and respectfully addressed as *bhagavAn* and *pAda* by the then scholars. So, as a mark of respect, both the addresses *bhagavAn* & *pAda* have become *bhagavatpAda*. And thus the name stuck. Rest of the adjectives like *at the feet of bhagavAn* etc. were poetically coined. Given below is a dhyana sloka of Adisankara Bhagavatpada which depicts his wonderful form holding Brahmasutra Bhashya in his left hand, right hand depicting *chinmudra* displaying the advaita tattva of atma & paramatma, holds danda and kamandala, seated in padmasana posture, with his disciples, forehead besmeared with sacred ashes, neck adorned with rudrakshamala ADI SANKARA DHYANA bhAShyam vAmakarE nidhAya aparE chinmudrayA bOdhitam prAkkunDI varadanDashiShyasahitam padmA(a)(a)sanastham prabhum phAlE bhasma dharam sudhAkaranibham rudrA(a)kShahArAn gaLE shrImat sankarapUjyapAdamanisham dhyAyAmyaham sadgurum // with regards, sriram bhava shankara desika me sharaNam......
