Guest guest
Dear gopi, Chandi Navakshari is mandatory for parayana of Devi Mahatmyam to *reap* the fruits of the Parayana. Pl. note that i am consciously using the word *reap*. For kamya anushtana of Sapthasati, DM is visualized as a potent mantra. When you say it is mantra, then all the required paraphernalia like Devi, Argala, Kilaka, Ratri Sukta, Devi Sukta, Rahasya Traya ARE MANDATORY. Otherwise, if you are reading the DM as a part of Markandeya Purana, as a purana, per se, like Devi Bhagavata / Siva Purana, one can enjoy the beautiful poetry of DM (mind you no kamya prayogas here!!!)with Navakshari Initiation. Now, if you have Panchadasi / Bala etc. etc. and intend to do the parayana of DM with Shadangas, please hold back. Get the initiation of Navakshari and start the parayana without any apprehensions. Suggested books for parayana: 1. Durga Sapthasathi by Chowkhamba Publications (this has also the Commentary of Shri Bhaskararaya *Gupthavathi*) 2. Durga Sapthasathi - By Gita Press (a wonderful book with pictorial dipictions, error free, and affordable price) available with hindi, english translations also 3. Devi Mahatmyam - By RK Mutt Publications (But does not have the shadangas) In Telugu: Durga Sapthasati - Rama Book Depot Publications (author: Shri Josyula Janardana Sastry) - A WONDERFUL FUL WHICH I RECOMMEND Devi Sapthasathi - Balasaraswathi Book Depot (Author Shri P.Sitaramanjaneyulu) A word of advice: Get yourself initiated in Navakshari and start the parayana. Panchadasi / Bala is not enough with regs, sriram , Gopi <antarurjas wrote: > > Dear devotees > > Is there any prescribed /preferred version of the DM that one can start reading? preferably in sanskrit and tamil with english translation please. > > Is any initiation into any particular manthra required to chant the DM if one has panchadasakshari? > > srI harI > Gopi > > > > >
