I sent a message. It did not appear - hence I am resending it.

 

1) I think this thread is out of scope, but we can handle it delicately. Satish

as a moderator - you should first discuss this with the moderators before going

out and criticising the scope. It is not cast on stone. But we should see if it

will be of use to our membership.

 

2) Instead of making it a 1-time thread - let us find an useful outcome.

 

3) I request Satish to create a Word document dealing with some of these items

 

a) Futility of conversion

b) Tactics used by christian/Muslim missionaries in converting people

c) Philosophical errors in Christianity and Islam

d) How to find help and support within our dharma

e) Get/Compile the views of achaaryas of different sampradaayas.

 

I think #d is the key.

 

4) Please seek a list of volunteers to help you with this document and when you

are done post it in files area and send a message to the list. This way, you

can point to this document when this issue arises again.

 

I do not think these conversions happen at intellectual level. And money is not

an issue most of the times. I think the main drive is the emotional need of

people in distress and people who need help. Unless you address at that level,

you can not win this one. Fortunately, the religious groups and organizations

with Hindu umbrella has realized this. In traditional India, this type of

service was the duty of Raja and gR^ihasta-s. But now it has fallen on the

shoulders of sannyaasa ashrama. I should say that they are doing this quite

well.

 

Satish - please send a closing message with a request for volunteers. after that

when you are ready with the document please post it.
