Guest guest
Dear rohit, 1) Vakka (betet nut) 2) Sunnam (lime) 3) Kumkuma Puvvu (saffron) 4) Jajikai (nutmeg in english and in Hindi called Jaiphal) 5) Japatri (mace in english and in Hindi called Jaivitri) 6) Toka Miryalu (black pepper having a tail sort of thing) - in Hindi Kali Mirch with a tail one 7) Sonti Podi (dried ginger powder). This is used in Tea etc. 8) Lavangam (cloves) 9) Paccha Karpuram (in english called Edible Camphor and in Hindi Kaccha Karpoor that is used as an ingredient in Bundi Laddoo) 10) Kadira (a sort of dalchina chakka) 11) Kasturi 12) Elakkakai (cardamom) All these ingredients are good for health and are of medicinal value. And hence, ayurveda prescribes the tambula sevana alongwith these ingredients after lunch. But some of the items that are available in the market are fake and it is better to check the quality of products before offering to deity. Guest guest
Dear all Are sri vidhya upasakas are not suppose to eat the tambula. Guest guest
Dear gopi, There is no restriction regarding the tambula sevana. Infact, tambula sevana is prescribed for grihasthas after meals (on in afternoon). However, if one does not have the habit of taking tambula, one can give it off to a suvasini. The restriction is for sugarcane as mentioned in Parasurama Kalpa Sutra. The statement goes like this *na ikShukhandam bhakShayEt* which means one should not bite the sugarcane with one's teeth as it is the ayudha of Lalitha and receives the worship as a part of ayudha puja. However, a little common sense is required here. Bitting with teeth involves defilement and is ucchista and hence prohibited. For that matter, a brahmaNa should not consume any thing by bitting as it becomes ucchista. If done, a prayaschita kanda is performed. with regs, sriram , Gopi <antarurjas wrote: > > Dear all > > Are sri vidhya upasakas are not suppose to eat the tambula. Guest guest
Dear Sriram, Can you please mention what are the prayastichas or japas that need to be done in case if one is socially bound to transgress some of the shastra prescribed restrictions. Like for eg, during birthday celebrations and other such functions one may have to eat cake (which may contain egg and hence restricted) bcoz of compulsion or one may have to accompany a friend who smokes and wud be bound to inhale the smoke of the tobacco. Under such circumstances how can one efface the sins incurred thru such unpleasant events? I am well aware that doing trikAla sandi alone will absolve oneself from all sins. But since doing sandi at the proper time itself is becoming tough with official & social commitments, are there any other prescribed japa or prayaschita for such happenings? Guest guest
Dear Ganesh I am a small fry in this forum of jaambavaans of saadhana and anushTAnam. my 2c on this is : If cakes is a problem, a very polite and firm 'no' does work. ( I live in a complex with some 100 odd houses and so 'tiny tots' birthday parties happen far too often!!!) The success of this depends on this: If pushed for the reason, how comfortable are you saying that this is because of my religious belief. We worry far too much about what the other person will think about our beleif than what our concivtion levels are on what we want to follow. The same applies to tobacco smoke, alcohol. The moment you very firmly say, 'NO' to intake of these, then things fall into place. Secondly, pl continue your prayer to HER in what ever form that you do. I have seen that SHE quietly removes the need for you to be in these places, unless you force yourself to. After the 3'rd or 4'th occasion of your polite and firm refusal, you will find out that the peoplpe order either eggless cake or give you an alternative. Lastly, like quite a few evolved sAshakAs in this forum say, all these really doesnt matter. ( this is not a blanket permission to do mischeif). Increase the preethi for HER and SHE will settle all these. avyAjakaruNAmurthi that SHE is. srI harI Gopi
Guest guest
Dear Ganesh, I am in complete agreement with Shriram, on this issue. We can very well avoid non veg, eggs , booz etc. Social or official compulsions are mere excuses. Personally in my professional or social life, no one has ever forced these on me when I have firmly and politely refused..This refusalhas in no way hampered my social or professional life.. Therefore, if you are not willing, no one can force you. You just need to be firm and polite. Guest guest
Dear Sadhaka Even though the question has been Addressed specifically. I would like to contribute some aspects of Prayaschita Our Subjects are So Elaborate and Vast that they cover each and every minute details of Sadhana and their Prayaschit's. Yes There are differnt Method's of Prayaschitta for all the wrong doing and slip up's in our Daily life style. But the most Important point is we can't make mistakes because we have Prayashchitas or parihara krama. Our subject's emphasis is on no wrong doings and reduction of mistake's. These Prayaschitas are to be applied only on life saving Situations only . Hence the best way would be to try to come out of our Bad habits.
