The buddha avatara was given in puranas which are older the birth of Gautama buddha. But people confuse the two as one. So there is no inapparopriateness. regards Goda Sastry. > > >On Wed, Jul 1, 2009 at 2:39 PM, ganapathy = = vijaya <srividya101 wrote: > > >>>>Anantha koti namaskarams. Guest guest
Thanx sri Ganapathy-ji,. In Srimad Bhagvatam, there is a verse which predicts Buddha avataar as one of the ten incarnations of Sri Mahavishnu. Here it is .... Bhaktivedanta VedaBase <http://vedabase.net/en1> : Srimad Bhagavatam <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/en1> 1.3.24 tatah <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/t/tatah> kalau <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/k/kalau> sampravritte <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/s/sampravrtte> sammohaya <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/s/sammohaya> sura <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/s/sura> -dvisham <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/d/dvisam> buddho namnanjana-sutah <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/s/sutah> kikateshu <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/k/kikatesu> bhavishyati <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/b/bhavisyati> Then, in the beginning of Kali <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/k/kali> -yuga <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/y/yuga> , the Lord will appear as Lord Buddha <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/b/buddha> , the son of Anjana <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/a/anjana> , in the province of Gaya <http://srimadbhagavatam.com/g/gaya> , just for the purpose of deluding those who are envious of the faithful theist. In the days of Buddha , people were resorting to killing of animals etc in the name of vedic ritualistic worship , Lord Buddha's sole purpose was to stop this practice of animal killing and preach non-violence or ahimsa . espeacially in Bengal where Tantric worship was prevalent , goats were sacrificed regularly at the altar of Kali. Poet Jayadeva also sings thus in his dasavatara stotra Govindam nindasi yajnavidhe rahaha zRti jAtaM sadaya hRidaya darzita pazu ghAtaM kezava! dhRta buddha zarIra! jaya jagadIza! hare! 'O Lord Kesava! You took the form of Buddha deva to critisize the Vedas and to rebuke Yajnas, out of Your mercy towards the animals, who were being slaughtered by ritualists for trivial material gain. You are the same Hari, the Lord of all !' -Sri Jayadeva 'dazAvatAra' stotra 1.9 Well,Lord Budha attained 'enlightenment' under the bodhi tree in Gaya. But he was born as prince Siddhartha in Lumbini,Nepal and soon after Siddartha's birth, his mother Mayadevi died and he was raised by his grandmother Anjana . There is only one Gautama Buddha but there were many Buddhas after the Great one! There is also only one Adi Shankara but there were many 'shankaras' after the Original JAGADGURU. I recently posted a review of a dance ballet 'buddham Sharanam Gachaami' and please go to the following link : pl read a-dance-ballet-on-gautama-buddha <a-dance-ballet-on-gautama-buddha> Ambaal created all the ten incarnations out of her Finger nails !
