Respected devotees of shrImAtA There have been some discussions on shrI upaniShad brahmendrAl and the glorious maTham at Kanchipuram on this list before. It has been indicated that the paramAchAryAl used to spend many hours here. Ganapathy-ji posted on the glory of this place at /message/6991 On our trip to India this time, by the grace of ambA and the Acharyals, we managed to go there a couple of times. The maTham is looked after by the descendants of the great yati, and they are the most gracious hosts. Even though on both occasions, we woke them up from their afternoon naps, they were very kind to us, and told us a great deal about the maTham. It is a very blissful place to visit, and see the awe-inspiring rAma-yantram and the shrines to hayagrIveshvara and agastyeshvara. As many of you know, it is believed that Saint Tyagaraja visited the maTham on an invitation from upaniShad brahmendrAl, and that Muttusvami Dikshitar set the yogi's rAmAShTakam to music. I have uploaded some photos from our trip @ /photos/album/1571750765/pic/list that show the well where paramAchAryAl used to bathe, and nandi at the shrines to the Lord. Which brings me to the real purpose of this post. We had also been to the upaniShad brahmendrAl maTham on our last trip (3-4 years ago ?), when we learnt that there are efforts to renovate the temple (there was a remark that the situation is so bad when it rains that the Lord becomes jalakaNTeshvarar :-) and conduct the kumbhabhishekam, which require significant funds. While I promised to convey this information to the list upon my return, sadly, that did not happen owing to my laziness. This time, I again promised that I do so. From what I understand, the kAnchi maTham will be helping in this undertaking as well. However, any funds from well-wishers/devotees will be very very helpful. Interested people can please send donations directly to the maTham [please make any cheques/DDs in favour of " Sri Upanishad Brahmendra Mutt " ]. Their address is Shri R. Krishnamurthi No. 6, Kailasanathar Koil Street, Kancheepuram - 631502, TamilNadu, India (not very sure about zipcode, found from web) If you wish to contact Shri Krishnamurthi by phone, please send me an email [i don't wish to post his phone number on a public list, since i did not seek his permission to do so]. If you will be visiting Kanchipuram, please drop by the maTham if possible; it is at stone's throw distance from the Kailasanathar temple. Please pass on this request to your friends, and (with any necessary permission) also post on other lists. I pray that with the blessings of tripurasundarI samEta chandramaulIshvara, the renovations and kumbhabhishekam take place in the very near future. parityajya mauna.n vaTAdhaHsthiti.n cha vrajan.h bhAratasya pradeshAtpradesham.h . madhusyandivAchA janAndharmamArge nayan.h shrIjayendro gururbhAti chitte ..
