There are 16 avataras of Jagatguru Dattatreya. They are:

 

Yogiraja, Atrivarada, Datta Prabhu, Kalagnishamana, Yogijanavallabha, Lila

Vishwambhara, Siddharaja,

Jnanasagara, VishwambharAvadhUta, MayayuktAvadhUta, MayamuktAvadhUta, Adi Guru,

Sri Shivarupa, Sri Devadeva, Sri Digambara, Sri Krishna Shyama Kamalanayana

 

These 16 avataras represent the 16 aspects of Jagatguru Dattatreya.

 

Among these 16 avataras, Kalagnishamana took incarnation on Margashira Sukla

Chaturdasi and Yogijana Vallabha took incarnation on Margasira Sukla Pournami

(ie., tomorrow).

 

Numerous are the lilas of Dattatreya in Kali and also His presence is vibrant

even now and one can feel His presence.

 

He roams about in avadhuta state with danda, kamandala and bhiksha patra and

graces the sincere devotee with yoga, mantra & atma vidya.

 

The daily activity of Jagatguru Dattatreya is:

 

Ganga Snana at Kasi, Achamana at Kurukshetra, Bhasma Dharama at Papeshwar,

sandhya at ganagapur, bhikshatana at Kolhapur, Tilakadharana at Pandaripur,

bhiksha sweekara at Panchaleshwar,

again achamana at Tungabhadra, sayamsandhya at Girinar and yoga nidra and

sahyadri hills (near Junagad of Rajkot).

 

Special importance is given during Dattatreya Jayati at Mahurgad (Reunka sthala

or Ekavira), Kolhapur, Pithapuram, Ganagapur, Akkalkot etc. (to name a few)

 

In this present age, some of the powerful incarnations of Jagatguru Dattatreya

are:

 

Shri Vasudevananda Saraswathi (alias Tembe Maharaj) of Garudeshwar, Swami

Samarth of Akkalkot, Shripada Srivallabha of Pithapuram, Shri Nrisimha

Saraswathi of Ganagapuram, Shri Gajanan Maharaj of Shegaon, Shri Sankar Maharaj

of Pune, Shri Shridhar Maharaj of Sigehalli etc. (to name a few).

 

Numerous are His miracles in the present day busy schedule and

if one is sincere enough, one can even get His glimpse in dreams

and even get mantra upadesa.

 

It needs a special mention, if one does not have a physical guru, one can

imagine Jagatguru Dattatreya to be his guru and start the parayana of " Guru

Charitra " . Eventually, Jagatguru Dattatreya would guide the aspirant in dream

and would lead to a real physical satguru.

 

So, let us all celebrate Jagatguru Dattatreya Jayanti which falls on

Margashira Shuddha Pournami and earn the grace of Jagatguru Dattatreya also our

own physical through Jagatguru Datta.
