Guest guest
In the Shloka 75 of SL, the Adi Shankara remarks that Ambaal's breast milk creates poets of Jnana. We also saw that it was Sambandar through a clarification Mail by a member . But let us examine what Maha Periyavaal had to say on this. QUOTE : The dravida sishu,Tamil Child who drank ambaal's milk of Jnana may seem to be Jnana Sampandar who composed THEVARAM. His period is the 6th Century AD whereas roughly speaking the AdiSankara lived between 6th century BC and 5th century. There is a gap of more than 1000 years between Adi Sankara and Jnana-Sampandar. Most of the commentators of the SL point out that, when the Acharyaal was a Child Ambaal sucled him, blessed him with Her milk. They further say that he is referring to himself in the THIRD PERSON as Dravida Sishu and that he doesnot say boastfully " IT WAS I WHO DRANK AMBAAL " S MILK OF JNANA " but refers to himself in all humility as someone unknown. The language called MALAYALAM came into existence only about 1000 years untill then Tamil was the language of Kerala and was part of Dravida land. So there is plenty of room for the Acharyal referring to himself as Dravida Sishu and is a matter of great pride for all of us. UnQuote : Maha Periyavaal was not only a WALKING GOD but also WALKING UNIVERSITY and Prathyaksha Kaamakshy. University scholars not only from India but also from countries abroad came to him and deemed it a blessing and a privelge to go back enlightened after meeting. In this background though some may feel the Adi sankara's period may not be correct,I have full faith in what periyavaa says.
