Guest guest
Namaste, I found an interesting discussion happening. Let me know your thoughts. Many upanishads say that Moksha is achieved only by Jnana. " jnandeva tu kaivalyam'. In Chapter 7 of B Gita Sri Krishna says that there are many janmas for a Jnani to become one with the supreme. Quote: " bahunaam janma namante jnavan maam prapadyate " . So after realizing that " I am BRAHMAN " , there is still handful of janmas to reach him. However there is a strong belief that for Srividya Upasakas the present janma is the last janma. Probably this is not an universal truth. The reason is as follows: We all understand Srividya as a Upasana path. By definition Upasana helps a sadhaka to realize that he is Brahman eventually (not necessarily in this janma). Upasana being a karma cannot make a Sadhaka realize Jnana directly. Having done Upasana for a long period, a sadhaka will be either born here or in Brahma loka where he will be preached about Brahma Jnana. In summary, it is important that a Sadhaka kills all his kartrutva, jnatrutva and bhoktrutva to realize he is Brahman. To achieve this Upasana helps. Guest guest
Dear Sashi, <<<<<<<<<<<<<< However there is a strong belief that for Srividya Upasakas the present janma is the last janma. Probably this is not an universal truth. The reason is as follows: >>>>>>>>>>> Good upasakas like you should not quote like this out of context. This has been dealt long ago by me in a post with a title " Srividya & Jivanmukti " . Here are some excerpts from that: There are 4 chief components in Srividya ie., Guru (dIkSha guru), Mula Vidya called Mantra, Devata (Tripurasundari) & Atma (Upasaka). Among these 4 components, there is a common underlying principle. In other words, the same *utkriShTa tattva* when takes the mAnava sarIra becomes Guru; the same *utkriShTa tattva* when takes the form of nAda becomes the mantra; the same *utkriShTa tattva* when takes the form of mAya-sabaLa-brahma becomes devata; the same *utkriShTa tattva* shines as antarAtma in the hridya akasa of the Jiva. UtkriShTa tattva with the help of pancha kanchukas becomes the Jiva and thus entangled in Samsara. So, objective of the Srividya is to go back to the original source (utkriShTa tattva) with the help of the Chatur-vidha Aikya Bhavana ie., contemplating on the above mentioned components. This sort of chaturvidha-aikhya-bhAvana of Guru, Mantra, Devata & Antaratma is called as *Srividya Upasana* (vide reference 73-74 slokas of Uttara Pithika of LS of Saubhagya Bhaskara of Shri Bhaskararaya Makhin). The *Visualization* and *Experience* of such unified principle among these 4 components is the *Srividya Upasana Siddhi*. Now, here visualization & experience (as per Shri Bhaskaraya Makhin) with respect to the 4 components imply: 1) Guru = Prakasa & Vimarsa 2) Mula Vidya = Transcending the avasthas like Unmani & Manonmani as per Varivasya Rahasya especially the Kaulikartha & Mahavakyartha Chintana)- which is mantra chintana 3) Devata = Nitya anusandhana of Chit tattva in Dahara / Hridaya Akasa (3rd aspect of Tripurasundari among sthula, sukshma & para rupas) 4) Atma (Upasaka) = Experiencing the Siva tattva in himself Thus, Shri Bhaskaraya Makhin says that such a Srividya Upasaka who has " visualized " & " experienced " the above components of Srividya attains Jivanmukti which would be the Last Birth for him. So, the slokas like " charame janmani cha Srividya " which forms the 73-75 slokas of of uttara bhaga are not exaggerations but were directed to such Upasaka who constantly reflects on the above chaturvidha-aikya and abide in the *utkriShTa tattva* which is *Parasiva Tattva*. Guest guest
Namaste Sriram, Thanks for the detailed mail on this subject. I missed your last conversation on this probably I was not in this group when you sent this. The below description definitely matches my understanding. Just want to quote Sankara's Bhashya to re-iterate what has been told below. To realize God you need to have the following 4. This is what is called as Sadhana Samapathi. This is fundamental lakshanas a sadhaka should have * Nitya anitya vastu viveka - this will tell that you should have viveka to consider what is nitya and what is anitya. You are told not to engross yourself on anitya objects in this world. * Iha amutra artha phala bhoga viragaha - this is VAIRAGYA. Iha means here. Amutra means swargaadi loka. Have vairagya. * Shamadi shatka sampathi - shama, dama, titiksha, uparathi, shraddha , samadhana. - I can give explanations (if required) * Mumukshatwa - a deep desire for moksha We can verify where we are by checking our svabhava (gunas) against the top ones. A sadhaka having above lakshanas will do nishakaama karma for a long period. He is called Arurukshu. Arurukshu having obtained Chitta Shuddhi will be eligible to do DHYANA and he is called ArooDa. After becoming ArooDa, he achieves what is called Jnana Nista. In Shudda Jnana a sadhaka stays (atmani yeva atmana tustaha BGita Chapter 2). He will not be outside of Shudda Jnana and he is referred as Jnani and this Jnani will have handful of janmas before reaching HIM. This is what is explained in Bahunam Janma namante Jnaavan maam prapadyate.... So it becomes immaterial for such people whether there is a janma or not. They neither welcome it nor curse it.
