Guest guest
I am reproducing an explanation given in a book " Sri Vidya Vishayakosam " in Telugu by Sri Paturi Sitaramanjaneyulu, published by Tagore Publishing House, Hyderabad. 1. Krodha appears elsewhere also in LS " Krodhakarankushojwala " . The reference here is to Kaameswari / Maahheswari representing the quality of Krodha and carrying the Ankush(Goad) to subjugate the enemy. It is the convention to name the Goddesses by the qualities they represent and weapons they carry. 2. Sri Chara is a representation of all aspects of Jeevi and Krodha(anger) is one of these aspects 3. Association of Kameswari/Maheswari with Krodha is also given in the Bhavanopanishad which deals in detail with the aspects and associated Goddesses In Sri Chakra. An authoritative source for this is the Prayoga given by Bhaskararaya. This is the Puja of the squares, the lotuses and triangles in the Chakra. 3. In middle square(Chaturasra Madhya Rekha) eight Goddesses are worshipped. Maheswari is second after Brahmi as " Padangusthadwaya Roopakatmaney Brahmeye Namah : Daksha Parshvya Roopa Krodhatmaney Maheswareye Namah. " This is same as Namami Kamalaam Kaantaam, Kaamaaksheem Krodha Sambhavam 4. Sambhava also means Equivalence according to Sanskrit Dictionaries and so worshipping the quality is equivalent to worshipping the Goddess Regards.. Guest guest
Hi, I think it is not KRODHA-SAMBHAVAM it is KSHIRODA-SAMBHAVAM. I do agree there are some documents which mention KRODHA-SAMBHAVAM of which i am not sure why. I am refering to the document in below mentioned link while replying to this message. http://www.prapatti.com/slokas/sanskrit/lakshmyashtottaram.pdf Also, I have an album on Devi Stuti rendered by Sulamangalam Sisters. Even it contains KSHIRODA-SAMBHAVAM ( which seems more apt as Sri Lakshmi Mata emerged from kshira sagar).. Also Sri Annamayya has refered to Mata Lakshmi as daughter of Kshira Sagar in one of his kirtan " ksheerAbdi kanyakaku Sree mahA lakshmikini neerajAlayakunu neerAjanam.... " it means " neeraajanam (aarati, benediction) to the daughter of the milky ocean, to the goddess shree mahaa lakshmi, and to the one whose abode is a lotus " . Thanks, Santosh. , Venkata Ramana Abbaraju <ramanaabbaraju wrote: > > Sri Matre Namaha > In Lakshmi Astottra we read " Namami Kamalam Kantam > Kamakshim Krodha Sambhavam'. > > Is some one can explain why she is called as " KRODHA > SAMBAVA " . > > > Regards > Ramana > > > > ________ > India Answers: Share what you know. It is the convention to name the Goddesses by the qualities they represent and weapons they carry. 2. Sri Chakra includes various aspects of Jeevi including Krodha(anger) 3. Association of Kameswari with Krodha is from the Bhavanopanishad which deals in detail with the aspects and associated Goddesses In Sri Chakra. An authoritative source for this is the Prayoga given by Bhaskararaya. This is the Puja of the squares, the lotuses and triagles in the Chakra. 4.In the middle square(Chaturasra Madhya) eight goddess representing eight qualities are worshipped starting with Brahmi representing Kama followed by Maheswari representing Krodha as " ...Daksha Parsvya Roopa Krodhatmaney Maheswaraeye Namah .... " . This is same as Kamaksim Krodha Sambhavam 5. In Sanskrit dictionaries, one of the meanings of Sambhava is Equivalent. So Krodha Sambhavam means the Goddess who represents Krodha in Sri Chakra and is Maheswari/ Kameswari. Guest guest
Thanks for quoting " Ksirabdi Kanyaku ... " one of the most melodious of Annamayya's compositions. This is a more appropriate name for Mahalakshmi. But still, this leaves us with the anomaly of " Kamakshim'. In a broad sense, any Goddess who fulfils wishes of those who pray can be Kamakshi. But generally this refers to Shakti and not to Mahalakshmi. Similarly " Shaktistu Bhuvaneswarim " . As others in this group are pointing out, there is lot of confusion about names. csantoshiyer <csantoshiyer wrote: Hi, I think it is not KRODHA-SAMBHAVAM it is KSHIRODA-SAMBHAVAM. Guest guest
Sree Matre Namah These stotras are written usig chandas (metre). LAkshmi Astottra I think in Anushtup Chanda(32 Lettered). If we say Kshiroda Sambhavam 1st will have 16 letters and 2nd line will have 17 letters. If we go per metre it has to be krodha Sambhava. It looks more appropriate in case of Maa Lalita as Krodhakaram kosojwalam as rightly mentioned by Respected Venkata Bhaskar. But lakshmi, who is a prasanna vadana in dhyana sloka, became krodha Sambhava ( Borned from krodha, produces krodha I am not able tounderstand which one will be more appropriate). greenmouli
I think krodhasambhavA would be apt. Many argue that it fits only lalitA but so does the last name bhuvaneshvarI too. If people suggest that it be kSIrodasaMbhavAM, then as someone pointed out, the metre doesn't fit in. Moreover elsewhere in the 108 names, she's praised as samudratanayA. Well, I am not arguing that there can't be a repetition of the names as it does happen in all eulogies of gods and goddesses, but it can be argued that krodhasambhavA can be the correct name here as someone gave many evidences for the same.
