Namaste,

I have a gorgeous Durga/Kali prayer shawl on my altar, so could any of

you enlighten me on the PROPER use of the prayer shawl within Hinduism?

I'm a woman, and I understand that prayer shawls are mostly used by

men, is that correct? What is the approppriate use for me when I use

my mala? (I have got a Tantric Buddhist mala made out of buffalo bone,

every bead carved to look like a skull), which I feel is appropriate

for the worship of Kali/Durga.

Can you advise me on both the shawl and the mala? Which fingers should

I use for japa?

As an additional note, I am a devotee of Shri Amritanandamayi Devi.

Blessings,

Snowgrouse(:>)

Namaste:

Actually, I think rudraksha beads are more appropriate for Kali. You can get

that at www.kalimandir.org

I think kalimandir has a puja book too, which might explain the worship of Kali.

To tell you the truth, I'm not too sure about the shawl either. In puja an

offering of one's clothes is mentioned. Maybe someone else can explain that.

Shanti Om,

Shankari Kali
