Guest guest
Am reminded of a story I've read... Parvathi once asked Shiva " Countless people bathe in the Ganges every day having been told that it will wash away all their sins and grant them Moksha. Do all of them actually get Mokasha? " The Lord answered, " No, very few get liberated. Unless there is devotion and firm faith no amount of bathing in the Ganges will cleanse one " . To prove his point, Lord Shiva took on the guise of an old man while Parvathi accompanied him as old lady. While bathing in the Ganges, the old man pretended to slip and fall into water. He started floundering in the water and seeing this his old wife cried out, " someone please save my husband. He cannot swim and is drowning " . As the other bathers rushed up the lady again cried out, " only a sinless man should save my husband . If he is touched by an impure one he will die. " Hearing this the people turned back; they were unsure and did not want to be that cause of death of the old man. Only one person, a simple man named Sankaran came forward. He had been told by his master that the only way he could get rid of his sins was to bathe in the Ganges and since he had implict faith in his master's words considered himself sinless now that he had bathed in the Ganges. He jumped into the water and rescued the old man. Lord Shiva said to Parvathy, " of the thousands that are bathing here today only this man who saved me will get Moksha, for only he had complete faith. " , " Devi Bhakta " <devi_bhakta wrote: > > Hello WBABOTD: > > For clarification, the Devipuram Maha Merus to which you refer were > made available during the recent Shata Meru Puja for those who wished > to help sponsor the puja and, in return, receive one of the Merus that > had been installed and worshiped by all throughout the event. > > All of those Merus were made of bronze with a coat of pure gold. Guest guest
Hind sight is always 20/20. I am wondering now, if faith is all that was required, why did I buy a Rs. 10,000 gold-plated maha meru. I dont even know how to do the navavarna puja yet... if only someone will teach it to me. The CDs that accompanied the maha meru are for MP3 players, as though all of us are so technology savvy to own and use MP3 players!!! I am still in the cassette/CD era and love it. As a result I have not a clue what is on those MP3 CDs. The 'sales person' who followed me around the whole last day when the maha merus were being given out, kept assuring me the meru will bring me prosperity and all good things. Ofcourse, he didnt say when. To end my rant, I was told they are putting together a year long course on the navavarna puja on the internet. I am wondering if it will require some high tech gadgets that will exclude me. Sigh!!! , " tclived " <tclived wrote: > > Am reminded of a story I've read... > > Parvathi once asked Shiva " Countless people bathe in the Ganges every day having been told that it will wash away all their sins and grant them Moksha. Guest guest
If you were with Guruji and Amma then shut up -- you have recorded everything you need with your brain. If you had the faith you could do it all manasa. If you read the Navavarana Book from Sri Vidya Trust then it says reading it alone is like doing the puja. So why not start there. Guest guest
Namaste Wanna be: As they say, " buyer beware " . That includes gurus. First you have to find out what your purpose is. Do you want to reach moksha? Do you want to learn to control certain bad habits? Do you want to become rich? Do you want good health? I suggest that you use common sense. That's why the goddess gave you common sense. I believe that you get what you give. The effort that you put into something comes back to you. Nothing is free, and nothing comes by magic. You have to put effort into these things. If you are not willing to put the effort into it, then don't do it, but don't expect to get anything.
